That's absurd, you can say that about absolutely anything, medications or otherwise. Gloves are a foreign object that protect the hands. And fighters' faces. We should ban them.

Mouthpieces are a foreign object that protect a fighter's weakness, in this case their teeth and tongue.

having teeth and a tongue is not a weakness for a boxer, since everyone has teeth an a tongue. Not everyone has brittle hands.

Everyone may not have brittle hands, but if xylocaine can numb brittle hands and make them useable, imagine what it can do for healthy hands. Jesus, they'd be battering rams.

This is the problem when people keep throwing around the word "advantage." If the drug is universally allowed no one fighter can gain an advantage from it.

 

I believe I've read the same thing. You're not allowed to use it day of the fight, or something to that extent.

Although we should both keep in mind that 99% of **** said on the topic is nonsense made up by people with a pro-Floyd/Anti-Manny or Anti-Floyd/Pro-Manny agenda. The only fact I know about it is that I looked up some of the state regulations and most of them just said "we allow whatever USADA allows." I looked up USADA's and WADA's lists and Xylocaine is banned by neither.

 

Excellent point that many have overlooked with this issue. Xylocaine only helps disadvantaged idividuals to operate at a normal level. Calling someone a a cheater for using Xylocaine is equivlant to calling a baseball player a cheater for wearing conact lenses.
