Ever just run into one of those smug, self assured assholes in life, who wears a cowboy hat for no particular reason & thinks they're better then everyone else?

Well good news, Jorge Luis Gonzalez at heavyweight is the closest boxing ever came to having a fighter that truly personifies that ******* that we all know and love (to hate).

This thread isn't about showing you what a jerk off Gonzalez was in his day, or glorifying it, but remember the horrible arrogance he displayed in the lead up to the Bowe fight? How about Gonzalez's prolonged & sadistic brutal beating of a far past prime Renaldo Snipes? One of the worst potential black eyes to boxing that you never hear about, in what a ***** this guy was back in his day.

This thread is to celebrate the flip side of that with some freshly available footage specifically arranged with love for you. :D (Also, some good bonus footage of one of my favorite journeymen, Ross "The Boss".

Did he? I wonder who the first fighter to ever do something like that was. It certainly wasn't a huge thing already back in the 90's when Gonzalez was coming around, was it? I know Mayweather made it some asinine thing the last generation of fighters has vainly tried to duplicate here and there...

He certainly did not take a particularly good punch for such a big man!

As a side note, Grant may not have been a particularly great over all talent, but his right hand was nuclear. He was a huge and freakishly strong man and really threw that punch out there with decent enough fundamentals. When it landed.....

I remember how he nearly killed Botha with it late in their bout when they were both 40+....

Ali used to do it of course, but Jorge did it in one of his last fights before the Bowe fight as far as I remember

I don't even count Ali, it was just his official trademarked bull**** and I've learned to accept that.

Grant may have been overhyped at the time but had he avoided Lewis and side stepped the Klitschkos I see no reason why he wouldn't have picked up a belt.

Absolutely. He was kind of like the opposite of Andrew Golota in many ways, and their bout reflected that...

And he wouldn't have been one of the worst beltholders in history either imo. Overhyped, sure... but not a bad fighter at all.
