Regardless of whether you agree with him or think he's a dink (or prone to overrating certain guys with styles that make him weak in the knees and moist in the panties, like Kirkland) - he loves the sport as much as anyone on this forum. He'll call people out when **** isn't right.

That ref needs to be shot, worse referee performance I have seen in years.

 

Just watched it this morning and I thought it was terrible. One of the most blatant robberies and biased refereeing you'll ever see. Now of course you have to give both boxers credit. Both are clearly very good boxers and both very entertaining.

You can't really criticise Mares for the low-blows because they weren't deliberate. But that said, it's the referee's job to officiate fairly and not taking a point away, and then counting Agbeko for the 2nd KD was just an awful call.

Agbeko should've definitely stepped up more when he hurt Mares in the 4th and at other times when Mares stayed static and in a way, Agbeko threw the fight away by continuing to walk into body punches (whether legal or not).

It was a good fight and all things being fair I think Agbeko deserved the win although you can't disagree with the scoring if you go by the ref's calls.

Mares is talented but he's definitely got a problem with these 'body' shots he throws and that needs to be sorted out because he can't keep getting favourable refereeing just because he's young and Mexican and right now that's exactly what it is and how he's won this tournament. I thought Darchinyan beat him and Agbeko should have too. He's a very lucky 'champion' IMO.

Plus at the end of the day, Nonito Donaire beats them both :deal


Oh and loved Showtime's coverage. Not a massive fan of Gus Johnson but him, Al Bernstein and Antonio Tarver make for a great team. Very happy that Premier Sports managed to just get the Showtime feed. Much better than getting Duke McKenzie in

I still had it Agbeko 114-112 winning. Scored the 11th 9-9. I love how Showtime told Russell he was wrong.

Such a shame this has happened, only just had a chance to watch the fight now. Mora is an absolute disgrace, the mopst incompetent peroformance I've ever seen inside a ring. Including boxers and refs.

I'm gutted because rightly this takes away from Mares' title win and achievement and I'm a massive Mares fan. The real villain in all of this is Mora first and foremost, it was his job to stop the low blows by taking strong action and he didn't. It's understandable that Mares was none too concerned with worrying about the precision of those left hooks to the body as he wasn't being reprimanded when they did stray low (about 505 of the time imo).

The fight was close enough to warrant a rematch anyway I thought but with the low blows on top, there just HAS to be 1. Otherwise, Mares' stock just plummets. And I really like the lad, so I hope his decency shines through and he gives Agbeko another chance- cos he can sure improve on his performance imo low blows aside and legitimately pick up the W.

Mora should never referee again
