Maybe Freddie Roach can teach Kovalev to throw some hooks.

lol thanks, I've been on this board since it was Eastside Boxing. Boxing is having a huge revival so many amazing fights, so I've decided to be more active here.

I'm a big fan of both JDJ and Kovalev, I actually think JDJ is the or one of the best trainers out there at the moment but Kovalev needed to get rid of him.

Obviously SK had a lack of respect for him, why I don't know but with team Ward approaching JDJ and him contemplating their offer regarding jumping ship whether he would of or not has imo snapped any of the trust or last bit of it.

Again I like JDJ but he didn't have to accept the offer to train Kovalev, he wasn't forced into it and he could walk away at anytime in regards to being allegedly ignored and being classed as just a mitt man.

This is best for both men I think.

How bout Garcia? He's worked with some bangers and is probably in good enough shape to hold the pads for him. In any case I hope Sergey lands somewhere that suits him and has him back in the ring soonest.

After the apparent overtraining for the Chliemba and especially the Ward 1 fight, I thought this split seemed inevitable. It seemed clear then that Kovalev was not happy with Jackson.

I think this could help Kovalev. BUT...he needs to be honest with himself about his own failings and weaknesses, as seen in the Ward fights and elsewhere (apparently does not listen to trainers well).

He wanted a Russian coach when he wanted to fire Jackson for the first time when Duva didn't allow that. So it is likely that his new coach will be someone from a post-Soviet country.

I think he lives in the Los Angeles area so his new trainer will probably be located around that metro area as well.

The problem isn't JDJ it's Kov. He knows he can outbox Ward first couple of rounds, but then he fades. It's his conditioning that always gave him problems. He simply can't box Ward for 12 rounds. That's not counting other factors like giving Ward time to figure him out as the fight progresses, Kov being susceptible to and not handling good inside fighters, etc. Whenever the fight was in long range, Kov was winning. When he wasn't, he let Ward back into the fight.

If Kov is not gonna listen then no trainer will help him.
His whole arrangement with JDJ was weird as hell, he cannot win at elite level in such way, Shumenov did the same thing and it doesn't work.
