I'm talking about from the perspective of Top Rank, not Showtime.

Tell me when then. I've given you clear evidence of one instance in which Top Rank has been caught doing so. Simply waving that fact away with the brush of "everyone's doing it" does not make for a convincing rebuttal.

Thank you for proving my point. Because when you claim:

Don't you know the execs at Showtime know this?

So why would it make sense for them, as you claim, to engage in a 'highly publicized bidding war' with a better equipped rival when they KNOW they are outgunned in resources and their only fight with Pac what based on, in your words, 'luck'?

In what negotiating world would the group that needed Pac the most allow their offer to be publicly disclosed like that, especially went they KNOW the group that 'owns this market' in HBO can EASILY match it?

    That makes sense to you?

Better yet, why do you think we never publically heard of a counteroffer from Showtime, especially since it would behoove Arum to continue to play these 2 rivals off each other?

Instead, we got Arum declaring a 'tremendous offer' from Showtime, and then a week later announcing the HBO deal.

If you believe in what you said, in that Pac relationship with Showtime was based on 'luck' and HBO's omnipotence in the boxing market could overwhelm Showtime at any time, then the ONLY logical conclusion here would be what I said in the first place:

Come on, man. It ain't that hard to see.

Now I am starting to believe that FMJ is a MAD GENIUS. Playing the Villain / Bad Guy has been good for business. 1.25 Million buys...and 1.24 Million paid just to see him lose:

    CHA-CHING!!!

You didn't hear about GBP getting caught up in NYC not too long ago. Thee read an investigation in to their "business profits" where they were cooking the books if I'm not mistaken. That article you posted simply had Bob mentioning inflated numbers which all promoters do. I wasn't giving Tip Rank an out or brushing it under the rug....just highlighting that they are NOT the only ones as you wanted to make it seem.

It's really not that complex dude. It's as simple and as low level as dollars and cents. The money that PAC vs Shane generated caused HBO to REALLY want to ensure they secured the NEXT PAC fight.

I never once said that ALL the details in the contract negotiations or "bids" for the PAC fight we made available to the public.... Only the most obvious which was a "GAME CHANGER"....getting MAJOR NETWORK TV to help promote the fight. Which hasn't been done since the mid to early 80's. The fact that TBS and CBS can reach 10's of MILLIONS of homes where HBO and SHOWTIME only reach a fraction of that.

SHOWTIME was very lucky that HBO kind of overplayed their hand thinking PAC wouldn't move over to SHOWTIME based on knowing they have more clout and capital for securing the BIG fights.....what HBO did NOT expect was for SHOWTIME to think outside the box and pull in CBS to ensure they didn't let this opportunity slip by. HBO didn't reach out to TBS...they never had to before....they did THIS time b/c they knew they couldn't come to the table with the same ol' same and think that they'd be able to get the PAC vs JMM fight.

The whole war that began with the PAC vs Shane fight between HBO and SHOWTIME was a huge deal because it changed the landscape of boxing on cable. It's now going to be a common even where big fights are promoted on network TV and not just cable.

The 2nd time around HBO wasn't going to be caught with their pants down...they knew they'd have to come with AT LEAST a comparable offer if not putting down MORE dollars, PLUS the TBS deal to ensure they got this rubber match between JMM and PAC.

HBO is still the top dog....but Showtime definitely proved that HBO can't think they they are alone...once they become complacent their top spot become at risk. Business 101 son!

I sincerely doubt HBO is legally obligated to release PPV numbers, revenue, or profit, but I'm willing to entertain it if you can find any financial documents. Time Warner is legally obligated to release earnings information, sure, but I would imagine the very most that they would ever report is overall PPV revenue. They probably don't even do that.
