Weeks away from the April 17th showdown between Kelly "the ghost" Pavlik and Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez.

Pavliks relentless pressure and power will be entirely too much for the quick footed martinez. Martinez may make pavlik look bad in the early rounds but eventually Pavliks power and stamina will be felt and martinez will eat canvas.

This bout ends with a Pavlik KO in the 8th

You could very well be right...

Martinez was hittable in the Williams fight. Regardless of who one scored that fight for, it is clear that Martinez was tagged and hurt on numerous occassions.

I don't know why so many sleep on Pavlik in this fight. If Pavlik connects with nearly the same caliber of shots Williams did, and he well may, this fight doesn't go 10.

Pavlik stops this goomba inside 5-6 rounds. Martinez will get on his bike after the first jab lands.

I cant believe you guys are writing off Martinez so easily. He made the "most avoided fighter in the world" look no so spectacular just a few months ago. And he is a pretty slick fighter with good movement. Pavlik is not that great with slick fighters, ie Hopkins. Of course Martinez is no Bernard Hopkins, but I think Martinez can beat Pavlik via decision as long as he boxes and does not try to trade punches.

Couple of things to bear in mind.

Martinez had almost zero training time for the Williams fight; he took it on incredibly short notice (being Pav fans, you'd know that already) and still made Williams struggle. This time, he's got time for plenty of preparation and to step up to the weight in the right way.

I very highly doubt he's going to gas so much this time, so if you're banking on that, I'd think again. Firstly, Pav doesn't exert anywhere near the kind of constant pressure and movement that Williams does. Martinez only really faded in the last two rounds and you can pretty much put that down to the lack of preparation.

Secondly, his 'hittability' and his low hands are part of his style; they're not flaws so much as how he entices people into positions where they can be counterpunched. I agree that Pavlik can exploit this with his power, but he needs to be careful because, as hard as he hits, his fists aren't as fast as Williams' and this leaves him more open to being timed back.

To me, it's a question of whether Martinez can stay away from, or take, enough of Pavlik's power shots during the fight, and how Martinez manages the strength/endurance step-up to middleweight. I think it's a toss-up between a Pavlik KO (if he catches Martinez often/hard enough) and a Martinez decision (if he doesn't).

The odds of Martinez avoiding a Pavlik power-shot for the full 12 rounds might be reasonably low, but I think he's got the skills and movement to pull it off. Martinez by UD for me, although I wouldn't be particularly surprised if Kelly KOs him.

Me too. I may be sick in the head, but I like the look of this every bit as much as Pac-Clottey and Mayweather-Mosley. Interesting style match-up; interesting size match-up. What's not to like?

Nobody better even think about writing off Martinez,As much as i hate to admit it,Martinez could very well beat Pavlik,He has all the tools to defeat Kelly

I feel Kelly will be very motivated for this fight,He knows he has a lot to prove,If i have to lean towards a fighter,it would be Pavlik close UD or Late Stoppage.

But Martinez winning a UD would not surprised me to be honest,Its very possible,It all depends on Kelly though,He needs to be at his very best to beat the underrated Martinez,If he isnt, HE GONNA GET HIS ASS KICKED,simple as that

Pavlik can get outboxed and countered all night against Martinez. If Martinez trains right for this one, I see him beating Kelly. Pavlik does have the power to turn the fight in his favor, but he's slow and needs his opponents in front of him to be effective.

I think I read/heard that Kelly will be doing some out of town training again for his focus. Very little doubt in my mind he knows exactly what the score is for this match up.
