The 3 fights that brought Martinez to real prominence were Bunema, Cintron, and Williams. Bunema was way past his best, and McKart beat this guy when he was prime.

Cintron wasn't nearly agressive enough, doesn't have much heart, doesn't think on his feet very well, and can't cut the ring off to save his own life.

Williams has all the defensive skills of Carl Froch! Paul doesn't know how to cut the ring off. He isn't very strong at 160, and he does not have true middleweight power.

I don't think Sergio has ever faced a fighter like KP. In the words of Nazim Richardson; "An ass whoopin' don't mean **** to this kid." Kelly will keep comin', and he'll land the right hand, the jab, and the long left hook from outside with surprising regularity.

If Sergio wants to win rounds, he has to get close enough to hit Pavlik. He likes to rush in and fire quick combos, but he usually leads with his face. On the inside he'll get hit with short over hand rights, left uppercuts, and bodyshots from both sides. Martinez will start slowing down after 4-6 rounds, and he'll do what he always does when he is tired and hurt: He'll start backing up in straight lines with his hands out of position, and KP will close the show somewhere in the middle rounds.

Pavlik fought 98 amatuer fights, and 37 pro fights. This ain't the first time he faced an unorthodox brawler with fast hands and feet. At the end of the day two things will be clear. 1) Pavlik can box a hell of a lot better than most people give him credit for. 2) Sergio Martinez is not a middleweight.

So if Pavlic is going to walk through Martines, a junior middleweight, so easily then why does Pavlic deserve any sort of credit? :huh

He needs to step his game up and fight some actual fighters in his own division that aren't cab drivers. He almost did but broke out with a yeast infection TWICE and backed out against Williams.

This is a terrible fight for Martinez.
Kelly is just too big and has very good stamina also punches much harder than PW.
However out of the 2 i think Martinez has a better chance at beating PAvlik than PW does.
Martinez might be able to actually outbox Kelly. If he can land on Kelly and hurt him early that would be key since that might slow down Kelly and make him a little more cautios.

    I would have rather seen Martinez-PW 2.

Sergio was always "the go to guy" in case either man dropped out.

That about sums it up. Pavlik has the big reach advantage, same way as Williams. Pavlik has a good sense of moving back out of the arc of his opponents punch and counter him with a long hook of his own, so it will be a battle between that, and Martinez ability to throw quick hooks. If Pavlik hasn't eroded considerably, it will be a tough night for Martinez.
