Official Pavlik VS. Martinez Poll--April 17th

I wonder how Kelly will react to Sergio's speed? Sergio, UD.

 

It is a historical fact that in 2007-2008 I made several posts where I described EXACTLY what an opponent has to do to beat Pavlik. Ironically, the Hopkins/Pavlik fight looked almost exactly like the fights I described. Sergio Martinez is not a LHW, and even if he was, he ain't no BHop.

Against Pavlik, Martinez cannot effectively uses strategic clinching to slow the pace down. He isn't strong enough, nor is smart enough to know how to move in without getting caught.

I doubt if Martinez has the power it takes to get Kelly's respect. KP is a guy that does not give a **** about an ass whoopin' if taking one will allow him to bully his opponent back against the ropes or into a corner.

Martinez has fast hands and feet, but I could name several guys KP beat out who have better defense than Martinez.

After careful review of Sergio's last 3 fights I no longer beleive he is a difficult opponent for Pav. The guy just has way to many bad habits to do well for more than 3 or 4 rounds.

 

Sergio, is not even a middleweight, nevertheless b/c of his hand speed he can beat Kelly. He is a very different fighter than Hopkins, but is faster than anybody Kelly has ever been in the ring with, and much faster than a prime Hopkins, which is not what Kelly fought.

He will have to have something on his punches though, if Kelly has no fear at all of his punching power he could press him and knock him out.

 

This is the one reason it is hard for me to go against Pavlik. He is big and strong and should be able to bully Martinez around. It will not be an easy fight though. I still got it at 50/50, but as it gets closer I will probably be leaning more towards Pavlik.

 

This may sound unrealistic but I honestly see no reason why Pavlik should lose this fight.

Yea You have a point there,I mean JT was way faster then Pavlik,Pavlik broke him down and knocked him out and then in the rematch Kelly outpointed Jermain clearly

 

Im sure Cintron has the same power that Pav has in a 1 punch situation BUT, Pav throws alot more than Cintron. So yes, he has been hit that hard IMHO. Can Pavs workrate wear him down though. And can Pav connect enough to wear him down. Hes not going to land as much as PW did against Martinez, hes just too slow but he should land more than Cintron.

 

Interesting conjecture. Care to back that up somehow? Pavlik is a tad larger than Cintron. Proportionately doesn't count here.

 

Ive seen a few Pav fights and never really witnessed a devastating 1 punch ko so i figure hes just a heavy handed fighter who wears his opponents down. Ive witnessed quite a few Cintron bouts and saw him put people to sleep with a single shot. Seeing as how Pavs bigger(but Cintron is a big WW/LHW!) that about evens them out in one punch power. That being said ive never been hit by the two so I guess martinez can let us know on April 18th:yep

 

There is no way to prove who's punch is stronger than the next!! Just because you are bigger doesn't mean you are stronger!!
