http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/11998650/david-lemieux-passes-test-gabriel-rosado Rafael's remarks: As soon as this fight was made between Lemieux, the massive Montreal puncher, and Rosado, the Philadelphia warrior, expectations were for an action-packed fight. This fight definitely lived up to those expectations as they engaged in a rock 'em, sock 'em brawl that had the crowd of 6,532 at the Barclays Center cheering throughout. The purpose of the fight, besides hoping it would produce great action for the fans in the arena and for those watching the HBO "Boxing After Dark" main event, was to give a big test to Lemieux, 25. If he could pass the test, Lemieux, who was fighting outside of Quebec for the first time, could quickly find himself on the short list to challenge titleholder and fan favorite Gennady Golovkin next summer, assuming Golovkin beats Martin Murray in a Feb. 21 defense. Who better to test a young fighter than Rosado, the battle-tested, two-time world title challenger who always comes to fight? Although it turned out to be a one-sided Lemieux domination, this was no easy fight at all. Rosado was in there swinging away and making Lemieux work for everything, despite a terribly swollen left eye. Lemieux, who is a vicious puncher, took control of the fight in the third round when he hurt Rosado with a left hook and then dropped him to a knee with an uppercut later in the round. Lemieux had Rosado in big trouble for the remainder of the round. That was also when Rosado's left eye turned into a swollen, back-and-blue wreck that was hampering his vision. Rosado said during his postfight interview that he saw three of Lemieux for the rest of the bout. And after being examined by a doctor after the bout, Rosado said that his orbit bone was broken. In previous fights, including knockouts in title fights to Golovkin and Peter Quillin, it was cuts that did in Rosado. This time it was swelling as he dropped to 0-4 with a no contest in his last five official boxing matches (not counting his unofficial Big Knockout Boxing knockout victory over Bryan Vera in August, an impressive performance that helped him earn this fight). The highlight of the fight was the fourth round. It was a wild round of the year candidate that featured hellacious back-and-forth action. First Rosado rocked Lemieux with a pair of uppercuts. As he went for the knockout, Lemieux responded with a hard left hook that sent him staggering back. They spent the rest of the round trading. The most delighted observer of this round very well might have been referee Steve Willis, who did a great job in the fight and seemed as entertained as anyone based on his wild facial expressions during the heat of combat. By the sixth round, Rosado's eye was essentially closed. The ringside doctor examined it during the seventh, eighth and ninth rounds, but allowed the fight to continue. Lemieux showed no mercy as he continued to pound Rosado, nearly dropping him with a left hook at the end of the ninth round. As Rosado continued to take punishment in the 10th and the eye was in terrible shape, the ringside doctor got onto the apron to order Willis to stop the bout. It took Willis a moment to realize what was going on because his back was to the doctor, but when he noticed he stopped the fight at 1 minute, 45 seconds. It was an awkward stoppage but hard to argue with considering how much punishment Rosado was taking. Although Lemieux was ahead 90-80, 89-81 and 88-82 at the time of the stoppage, it was a helluva fight. Lemieux got the sort of test many hoped he would get as he came through in good style to win his eighth fight in a row since back-to-back upset losses to Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alcine in 2011, and he set himself up for bigger business.
The first two scores look OK. I dont know about the 88-82 ??? Especially with the knock down. Lemieux out landed and out punched Rosado every round. What exactly did Rosado do except trying to survive. Rosado did alot of posing throwing nothing. Except for a couple of punches Rosado was totally ineffective. For the most part, Rosado's best weapon was his face. Rosado is one tough cookie, nevertheless, you have to throw punches to score. and these punches have to land. Lemieux missed alot of punches but he also landed so many. When he wasnt first he answered back with hard effective shots. Good fight but not close.
Rosado won a round (or 2) on almost every scorecard in the RbR. It wasn't like he was completely dominated because he definitely had his moments, it just was clear who had the upper hand in the fight. I'd say that the judges scorecards were pretty fair.
