Have you guys ever heard of shoot boxing? Now since I follow Asian Boxing and I could find a thread for that here I decided to start one myself. If someone could make this a sticky I would appreciate it. Basically Shoot Boxing was created in Japan around 1985 or 88. "Shootboxing allows kicks, punches, knees, elbows, throws, and standing submissions (chokeholds, armlocks and wristlocks)." So basically it's MMA without ground game?
Basically, but it's Boxing not really MMA. Hopefully we can make this into a big deal thread. Maybe I can start posting Asian Boxers in it too.
Alright, but we will keep this thread active. Mainly I want to make it about Asian Boxing. This content is protected At a recent awards show in Japan, WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (20-0-2, 15), continued to talk about his future and the year ahead. One thing we knew was that Yamanaka would be defending his world title in April against a yet to be named opponent in Kansai. What was hinted at however was that that defense may be his last with the popular fighter talking about giving up his Bantamweight title to chase bigger riches at Super Bantamweight. More than just moving up in weight the suggestion is that Yamanaka would be challenging for a title in the US, or more precisely Las Vegas. This would suggest that Yamanaka is looking seriously at fights against either Leo Santa Cruz or Guillermo Rigondeaux, both of whom would make for great opponents for Yamanaka. When asked about a possible unification with WBO champion Tomoki Kameda, Yamanaka seemed to suggest that that fight would be unlikely. It wasn't that the WBC champion doesn't want that fight but he seems to realise that the youngest of the Kameda brothers is unlikely to be willing to share a ring with him. Yamanaka will be traveling out to the US at the end of this month in preparation for his April title defense. It's fair to assume that whilst he's over there he will be scouting possible opponents, including Leo Santa Cruz who fights on March 8th, and trying to get used to US conditions. @TheAmazing u talk a lot about the boxing aspect but it's really the MT guys that have the most success, both FTRs & Dutch MT. Remember who Buakaw just walked through the competition in 2010, it was embarrassingly easy. Souwer's dominance etc. Shoot boxing is geared for MT fighters to do well as stand up grappling and close in strikes are core to MT.
Well that much is true. I actually enjoy Shootboxing and like when the MT and Kickboxers join in. Plus it looks more safe competing in it.
