Cantwell's looking quite sluggish. Stamina issues? This fight has been value for money so far in terms of entertainment (for this casual fan). Dunno how technically sufficient it is? Fukuda going bbody, head, head, body! CAntwell's wilting... But both guys end the fight standing.
The correct decision this time: unanimous win for Fukuda, poured on the pressure in Rds 2 & 3 on a 'stuck in the headlights' Steve Cantwell. To be fair though, Steve did try several submissions from the bottom (guillotine, arm bar) but Riki Fukuda had the spatial awareness to wrest back leverage and escape. Joe Rogan said it was from his wrestling (?)
Yup, I was dozing off, then that nice double kick from Cantwell at the end of Rd1 shook me out of it a bit... Then Riki started landing his shots - it seemed as tho' Cantwell was waiting for him to finish his shots or tire out before countering but ended up forfeiting points and damage - good honest scrap where both guys came to fight. I hate Lay n Pray
Kid Yamamoto v Vaughan Lee now. Rd 1: Lee takes the centre immediately Kid juking and jiving around like achihuahua. Wow, this kid's exlposive! Shoots out a straight left. BIG right hook from Kid, clips Lee. Retreats back to the cage, Kid follows up and slings hooks. Lee covers up very very well. Survives.
Kid was very good in his best days...but Joe Rogan calling him a legend of MMA is probably a bit too much....
Kid should have gone for straight shots down the pipe. His hooks are 'batted' away by Lee's elbows. Well done. Resets in the middle. A knee from Lee connects, Kid right hooks in response. Rogan says Kid looks in troub;e (I can't tell:?) Lee pursues Kid. A brief clinch of diirty boxing; Lee gets the better of it - nice combo! Left hand on neck, right hook body, right uppercut, right hook body, right uppercut, releases hold, throws hooks, one lands flush.... Kid staggers visibly back. Lee jumps on him... Sorry - dunno how they got to the ground:roll: (I forgot!) but LEe ends up on the bottom, attempts a triangle, can't quite close it, leg hooking on leg instead. Lee elbows and hammer fists in an attempt to finish submission, wisely switches outside leg from a triangle to an armbar (smart kid!) very quickly. An anguished Kid taps out almost immediately and slams the canvas in dejection. Lee wins via tapout/armbar. Beats "one of my favourite fighters ever"
Next : Eiji Mitsuoka (a very good wrestler) vs Takanori Gomi (more complete, but seems very past prime recently to be honest)
Round 1: Eiji landing the better shots.......nice body knee by Gomi.... Good right hand by Eiji.....another good one some seconds later..... Good right hook by Eiji, again by the way.....nice uppercut by him.....Gomi landed a nice shot, but not too clean.... Nice left hand by Eiji............Big right shot by Eiji......Gomi dropped, Eiji got the mount......a inverted triangle (triângulo invertido) now.... Oh dear.....Gomi saved by the bell...... 10-9 Eiji....clear.......very interesting, Eiji getting the edge in the stand up.....
