MARGARITO AGREES TO FIGHT COTTO ON JUNE 9!

PRESS RELEASE: World Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito has agreed to take on two-time world champion Miguel Cotto on a Top Rank mega event June 9 at Madison Square Garden. Bob Arum of Top Rank and Team Margarito made the announcement today. "This is the biggest fight out there for me," Margarito said. "I am anxious to get into the ring against Cotto." Margarito, the 'Tijuana Tornado' with a record of 34-4 with 24 knockouts, is presently out with an injury in his right wrist. Margarito, managed by Sergio Diaz and Francisco Espinoza, will attend the Miguel Cotto vs. Oktay Urkal WBA world welterweight championship fight on March 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. If Cotto wins, a formal Cotto vs. Margarito announcement will be made that night.


Cotto-Mayorga was set, yet no announcement was made? Hmmmn.

 

LOL! Its impossible for one man to represent the pride of an Island filled with millions. Trust me no one but Cotto would be put to shame.....I mean did you fit your large crainium in between your thighs when Margo decided to bypass Cotto to take on Williams and defend his title. Was he ducking Cotto? was he scared of Cotto? probably not......did you make a post or thread claiming he would shame is countrymen if he didnt fight Cotto? hell no. :smoke

 

I'm nervous, about this fight not happening. Team Cotto really needs to stop bullshitting and sign the fight!

Floyd and DLH are not going to fight Cotto right now, them two are waiting to see if Cotto can survive Margo. at least make it to a decision, of course Cotto will win to make a mega fight with one of them. he's got no choice, Arum really wants this fight as well.

If Cotto wins, im sure PBF and DLH are hoping he'll be so banged up and tenderized from Margo that they'll have a better chance.

 

Unless something drastic happens, this fight will go down. What other options are out there for Cotto?

 

I agree... this fight should get signed in a couple of days. But you never know... Mosley is looking for an opponent and Arum might realize suddenly that there's a bigger name available than Margarito... I wouldn't bet one dollar on that, but still, it's a big money fight and an exciting rematch. It's pro boxing after all...

 

Cotto might just want to get paid ... I don't think he's scared but i'm sure he wants to make a career high payday.

He's the draw ... He's the higher rated champion ...

I wouldn't be surprised if Arum hadn't offered Cotto more money then retracted on the dollar amount.

Maybe 8m? ... 10m?

 

They should be already on a promotional tour ... this is a PPV fight ...

This fight should already be signed but i'm sure it has more to do with Arum than Cotto.

I wanna see Mosley v Berto for right to fight PBF ... and this time I don't want to see Mosley fight someone else --

 

If Cotto beats Margo, he will have his MEGAFIGHT with DLH or PBF and be super paid. Those clowns have no choice but to fight Cotto then.

So is Team Cotto scared that he might lose and then not get paid? Margo is a very risky fight, maybe Team Cotto is realizing this.

 

Naw they not worried about this guy ... he wants to get paid ... i'm sure that Arum offered Cotto a nice sum ... but now that the fight is right in front of them ... Arum probably wants to get over on Cotto.

 

Or... after seeing DLH win and challenge Cotto. Maybe now Cotto wants Arum to pay more to fight Margo to later get a Mega fight with Oscar. knowing Arum would like that mega fight too.:thumbsup how does that sound?

 

Let's be factual here. Floyd offered to fight Mosley right after the Vargas fight and he chose to go on vacation an complained about his tooth.

Regarding Margarito that's another $8MM story.

 

Excuse me, but that is exactly what floyd did as told by Arum ,, Floyd would have taken the 8 mill to fight Margarito only if he were to get Cotto and Hatton should he beat Margarito , a deal Arum turned down .. so if your trying to say there is a difference between what floyd did and what cotto may be doing ,, your wrong ..
