You never stay in a Vegas hotel before a fight, everyone knows that. You stay 20 minutes off the Strip in the suburbs (in an ideal world).

I have heard it loads. Or catching a cold from the aircon etc.

Have you ? You know pumping oxygen into casino's isn't a thing though right ?

Sure air con can spread viruses etc but literally every building in Vegas has air con, I think the distraction of the casino/vegas in general is a much bigger factor, so if you're susceptible to those distractions then of course don't base yourself in a hotel with a casino.

Either way its not an excuse to not prepare properly and where you are staying is part of that preparation.

As I said I've never spoken to one boxer who has boxed in Vegas , stayed in a hotel on the strip and used that as an excuse , the sample size is small, maybe 10 but still.

Davies is saying whatever he can use to deflect against a result, which on paper has ended his career near the top of the world rankings. He clearly thought he would walk through him and would never in a million years expected that outcome. He’s saying anything to get traction including calling out opponents to box in a few months time who would end his career (possibly for a last six figure payday as he knows the end is near).

I have spent a decent amount of time in Vegas and when you box on the strip getting enough rest and sleep on fight week is essential. I agree with you that it is not always easy when you are in the entertainment capital of the world.

Ref the aircon, Hatton used it as an excuse for his fight with Urango at the Paris hotel. He said he caught a cold when he was sleeping in his hotel room. He then had the wisdom (and money) to stay off strip for all his other Vegas fights.

I caught a cold sleeping in a hotel in Dubai so it is a thing but would there really be that much air con in a Vegas hotel in January? Can’t be more than about 10-15 degrees outdoors surely. As you said though, he should be renting a house off the strip.

He got caught cold and never properly recovered. Showed nuts to keep trying to fight on, particularly after his actions in the Taylor fight but getting wiped out in the 1st round by a 40 year old opponent is a really bad result for him.

He does bring a bit of name value to the table but in terms of negotiations and big fights, the salt and pepper won't be on his side of the table.

I agree with all of the above , if you watch his interview (on IFL I think) you'd think anyone staying more than a couple of days in a hotel on the strip is walking around like a zombie and too tired to do anything which is the complete opposite of what these places want.

Some of his old videos on his YT channel were all about how he couldn't stay out of casino's , maybe that was part of the problem this time and certainly not the place to base yourself if that is the case.

He couldn't sleep, so in the middle of the night he would go downstairs for 'something to eat' , I would suggest just because he cant sleep he shouldn't be eating in the middle of the night either, if that is what he was doing.

I like OD , but for someone not making any excuses there have sure been plenty of excuses thrown about.

Let's be honest, the fact he got this chance is amazing. He is nowhere near this level and never ever will be. He had that big payday almost given to him but there are levels to boxing and Ohara is British level.

Exactly. Just had a quick look for about £200 a night you can get a 4 bed house with a pool. So no excuse.

I agree he’s talking nonsense, as if a professional boxer would go downstairs to eat at silly o’clock in a Vegas hotel the day before a weigh in. When you as big as Davies at 140lbs you don’t eat random meals at all hours, you barely eat a thing on fight week.

You'd be surprised, I have seen a lot of fighters who are staying on strip in the week of the fight, big names too, I have seen Canelo staying in a strip hotel on a couple of occasions on fight week ,
