I think so too. Not sure why the bookies have Taylor favourite, he is good, but Ohara looks better to me. What am I missing?
Ohara Davies for me by ko. He has good natural abilities, although not the most polished of boxers. Don't think Taylor punches are hard enough to keep Davies off him. Taylor is probably a better boxer fundamentally but I think Davies has that killer instinct in him and that natural timing and power. Will be exciting while it lasts!
Well I'll have a crack. First off though, I'm biased & I will admit that. I've watched both closely, enjoy watching both & find the fight appealing because of the clash in personality & styles. But I am a Taylor fan. There are a good few reasons why I think Taylor is favourite & destined for a higher level. Taylor has greater amateur experience. Taylor has had one poor/average Pro performance VS Olvera. Olvera on watching his fights makes everyone look like that i.e Ryan Karl & Juan Heraldez. And Taylor had great sparring before that fight but nothing that suited Olvera gangly style (Shawn Porter & Yordenis Ugas) Taylor has quicker hands & feet, utilises feints & changes distance well, switch hits too. His power is solid but timing & accuracy more than make up for power disparity if there is any. Taylor has a mid/short game. He can work body, uppercuts & short hooks inside & change tempo. Taylor's opposition generally matches or beats OD's regardless of hype & Taylor has stopped almost everyone without being troubled. Ohara Davies has a nice jab, right hand & killer instinct if opponent is hurt but he's way more one dimensional, one paced & for someone with the power he has he hasn't KO'd any 140 fighters impressively. Derry Matthews had never been to 140, stopped many times including Luke Campbell at 135 in 4 rounds. Andrea Scarpa is 2nd best win went 12 easilly, & Scarpa's 2nd best win was a 12 round close UD vs a fighter Taylor KO'd in 2 rnds in his FOURTH fro fight. Scarpa had 19 fights at that point. Ohara loses balance when his misses his shots & can be countered, his jab will partly be nullified by Taylor's southpaw stance. Davies has shown zero inside game & only throws combinations when opponent is hurt. Davies becomes predictable, jab, right hand. Wide lead left hook & corkscrew uppercut. Leaves himself out of position & off balance when leading off too often. Can be sharp counter puncher but Taylor won't fall in short like Matthews did. Davies can win the fight, no doubt but honestly if Taylor performs, this will be a comfortable win for Taylor. Dave Ryan is better 140 than anything Davies has faced & he was dropped twice & stopped in 5 rnds. Looking forward to this one, great clash of styles but I cannot fathom the consensus that Davies is a league or more ahead of Taylor, I really can't.
If his timing/accuracy matched his power he would be doing to most fighters what he did to Derry Matthews but so far he's only done that to an old 135 fighter who then retired. Speed, timing, accuracy & all round game lie with Taylor. Very surprised at how many choosing OD & by stoppage.
Taylor for me. Can't wait for this one, got tickets for it last month and really hoping it lives up to expectations! Taylor by KO/TKO for me. Excellent post from Amazing One, couldnt have said it better myself. Not a foregone conclusion, Davies can win this, i just think Taylor is a step above at this stage. Hope im right, can really see this kid going far if he continues to be managed well and continues to perform the way he has so far.
Fair play to both for taking it so early in their career. I have Taylor by UD but OD will give him trouble at times. Should be a good scrap
The bookies seem to agree with you. Maybe I'm not seeing what others see in Taylor. He seems well schooled and maybe I'll be wrong. It's just all the things I hear from the gym from sparring partners of ohara Davies. Kevin Mitchell seems to have no doubt that Davies will be a world champ.
So, had a look at Taylor some more. Think I might be swayed by him... Looks a lot better than I remember... Also, he owns a win over man of the moment Mr.Horn which I didn't not know about....
He is good, & you might not be wrong. Maybe Taylor is all hype. I see Taylor as well rounded, strong with rough edges but fundamentals to improve those rough edges. Davies is so raw, I'm convinced his ceiling will be way lower but Saturday night will tell us more. And all Gyms say that. Frampton thinks Taylor would already beat certain world class 140 fighters & Barry McGuigan already has him as potentially best Scotsman since Buchanan (slow down Barry, feck me) & he has apparently been breaking ribs (twice if believed) in sparring for this fight VS bigger men with 16 oz gloves on. Gym stories/opinions are great, all part of a build up. I seen Darren Barker offering Curtis Woodhouse a bet on twitter, Barker thinks OD is a certainty & Woodhouse thinks Taylor is. All part of the fun. Be a great fight though, can't wait
