booked a 2 week trip to japan for jan 2016. wanted to stop into the famous ohashi boxing gym (seems like its right near the yokohama station so getting there should be a breeze). just wondering if anyone knows how they are with people requesting to come train a little meet and greet the fighters such as naoya inoue tried finding them on facebook but iv been unable to message them directly surely we have a few japanese fans on the board? thanks in advance
What do you mean by train? Like spar, or shadow boxing/bags/mitts? Because in Japan they dont let you in the ring until they know you're actually experienced or that they're certain that you're not going to go bat **** crazy during sparring. The only way I'd say they'd let you spar right away is if you've had an extensive amateur resume, probably like 20+fights, or somenoe they know brought you in, or you're a pro. Also you'll definitely have to pay some kind of fee to use the gym, spectating might be free if you pretend like you're going to join the gym. It's not like America where you can watch some pros train and shoot to **** for free. As for the meet greets, Naoya aint a big deal in Japan, so I'm sure if you called ahead of time, they'd tell you when he'll be there, and you can take pictures and watch him train, but if you're expecting a social hour I wouldnt bother.
damn that sounds pretty full on, i was kind of hoping to move around a little. would be an amazing experience to see first hand just how many levels above a world class level fighter like inoue really is, more so how hard his punches feel. i mean id settle for a meet and great, still an amazing experience
You're not getting into the ring to spar without any proof that you've had an extensive amateur resume. Unless maybe you **** them off and they let Naoya beat on you , but I highly doubt that happens, in the states I'm sure if oyu talked **** to one of the pros they'd let you in and beat your ass though. You have nothing to lose so maybe just ask if you could hold the bag for him or mitts or maybe a body suit. If you're expecting to move around the best you'll get for a one tiem visit is shadow boxing in front of a mirror/ring, heavy bag, and maybe mitts but i wouldnt get my hopes up.
Funnily they have had some untrained TV folk in their with Ryo Matsumoto and Keisuke Matsumoto among others with the two Matsumoto's (not brothers BTW) both making the TV presenter look silly. They do a 1 time visit for free for prospective members and have other options available, albeit paying options. One of which includes a personal training session with Koji Matsumoto, Yaegashi's trainer. The ohashi gym website is a fountain of information about stuff regarding visits.
