No. I don't think he needs to get banned from boxing for life... if every promoter would've been banned for life who had a controversial situation, there won't be professional boxing at all...

What he did was a serious disgrace to our sport, so he should be fined and banned from ringside and forced to make a public apology to Team Williams, the Spanish Boxing Federation and to all boxing...

I think the Bund (German Boxing Federation) can pull the plug on his promotional licence (for staging events in Germany), also the organizations can deny his stable (rankings, purse bids), but on the other hand, the event was in Spain, this scandal happend under the Spanish Boxing Federation, so I belive it's the local Commission's authority and it's only they who can ban him of course from staging any shows in Spain... not forever, just for a period of time (maybe 2-3 years)...

On the other hand, this was Öner's and Arena's very first controversial situation... big one if you ask me, and what is the most silly in this situation that Ahmet did it in front of the live TV cameras... :patsch

Ringing the bell sooner to save the protected fighter unfortunately happens everywhere, just watch Mormeck-Bell II, in front of world-wide TV cameras (sanctioned by WBC, WBA), for the UNDISPUTED championship, so that was pretty bad as well. Others just simply pulling the corruption card so they can sit in there chair and let the timekeeper/referee/judge do what he's paid for...

A LOT, almost every promoter gets away with a lot of stuff... which is very unfortunate... and then again: how silly was this move from Öner, this could destroy his promotional career. I won't be stunned if the other companies will deny to do business with Arena... I think that's the biggest punishment a promoter can get, hurting his purse...

I might add that before the scandalous accident Arena did a very fine job in moving fighters forward in their boxing career and I don't remember any controversial decision his fighters recieved, but I might miss something... also, what I know is that he put very serious time and money for the 3 (4) Cubans from getting them a VISA, a safe trip to Germany, German citizenship, US citizenship, apartment in Hamburg etc., and of course he paid their boxing equipment, training costs and trips, not cutting the fighters' percentage like others do... This has nothing to do with ringing the bell of course, but Arena seemed to be a pretty decent stable...

So once again, no, he shouldn't be banned from the sport, but he should publicly apologise, should be banned from ringside (which I think can only happen in Spain), get fined and remember this scandal good, because from now on, EVERYONE will watch all his actions...

It seems like everything that can go wrong in a boxing match, went wrong including horrible (and I mean HORRIBLE) referring, glove problems, low blows, blows behind the head, incompetent officials (bell ringer (why the **** did he allow someone to ring the bell), promoters, etc).

The bell ringer didnt allow him to ring the bell he just straight up walked up and just did it.You can see the time keeper bitching afterwards.

I think he deserves some prison time. His actions are bordering on criminal activity.

I really have no information on this guy, but this was so blatant I would think it is just the first time he has been caught doing something. You don't get this BOLD in the blink of an eye. Or maybe he got some bad drugs? Or is that good drugs?

Wait. Let me get this straight. This guy was the promoter of the Williams fight this weekend, and he got up and rang the bell to keep Williams from knocking his guy out.

****, here in the USA, even Don King wouldn't attempt something like that. Beyond the pale, imo - hell, yeah the guy should be banned. That's outright cheating, no ifs, ands or buts.

Yeah, I understand Bigbone wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt because he hasn't been CAUGHT before, but you don't become this kind of slime on the spur of the moment. This was calculated. He planted himself next to the bell for a reason. That was just to BOLD to be spur of the moment and a one time lapse of moral judgement.
