This is true, but in fairness, they also swept many wins under the carpet, too.

It was kind of the style in which Fitsgerald recapped his career.

For example, I seem to remember him specifically mentioning that Ezzard Charles was one fighter who represented a true nightmare for Moore. On the flipside, I remember him saying very little about some of his victories.

Of course, some fights received much more attention than others. Two examples of each that come to mind, his victory over Durelle (which largely defined the book) and his loss against Marciano.

I just think when you're dealing with someone who had SO MANY fights, a lot of details wind up getting passively overlooked. Though, in fairness, I've never read a book about another boxer who had as many bouts as Moore had.

 

Of course you are right.

There was a decision to be made here - the one he made or the really, really hard one with the really, really long road and go for it. You're looking at 500 plus pages, but that would be the book. That book would have to be on any list.

Moore seemed to have that affect on people - like a mongoose he hypnotised them into believing he is better than he actually his...maybe you too - :hey

 

It's funny, because I, too, have always remembered that specific line long after I read the book.

Having rewatched the fight recently, and seeing Moore's early dominance through the first four rounds, I can see where that quote came from.

 

I too scored rounds 1-3 for Moore. I think if he was five years younger he might have pulled it off. He knew, at his age, with Rocky's workrate, he couldn't be out of the firing zone for any length of time.
