Ok let me lay it down for thee.... Some people think he's a ****. I don't. He was a massively hyped at the start of his career and failed to live up to the promise he had showed in the amateurs. He was out-psyched by Williams and Guinn then spondoolied by a lucky punch from Sprott in a fight where he was boxing very well. Audley has to go out with the mentality that he has one more chance to show he has anything. I believe he has, he fights like a southpaw Lennox Lewis, he lacks Lewis' heart, tenacity or power but his fundamentals are world class..... and his performances against Williams (2) and Sprott (before the KO) showed that he is capable of delivering a world class performance. Tonight he wastes his time in typical Sports Network fashion fighting someone I've barely heard of..... If you were Audleys manager/promoter how do you steer him back into contention?
No, even if you give him the benefit of the doubt on his questionable motivation and talent at top level he's just too old and doesn't fight often enough. I think he's been in denial of the true situation he's in for a few years now.
I actually really like Audley and was disapointed in the Williams and Sprott fights and the fact his career has gone tits up so often. He is still a fine boxer and has alot to prove. This fight is probably a good thing due to Audleys lay off but he needs to matched again quick and against better opposition, not sure of Rogans injury but that would be a good fight. I would keep him out of the domestic fighters paths and try his hand against maybe the German based guys or a few more Yanks. Guys like Solis, Igbraminov, Carl Davis Drummond and Travis Walker would be good, if he manages to come through well then he deserves respect and a title shot. I still doubt he will get his success but hope him all the best.
Not a hope I'm afraid. His career as a pro has been so hyped and drawn out it has just been hard to stomach. It's getting a bit tragic at this stage. He never was and never will be a top line operator despite the division being weak. The best he can hope for is to get a crack and then get totally banjoed by a quality fighter a la Williams v Klitschko
No, because in all his years as a pro, what can we say is his finest achievement. A victory over a late sub replacement in Williams? Whilst he was good in the first round against Sprott he then stopped pressing and allowed Sprott back into the fight. This is a weakness of his as a fighter, and don't expect him to come out and stop Arias tonight in the first round like Lewis did with Golota. Audley has boasted but never backed up the talk or the hype. He is not world class and has not proven he can suddenly, at his age, find the fire, heart and determination to catapult himself into the mix and win a world title. The next time Harrison loses, which in my opinion is the next time he steps up in class, he will have no choice but to retire.
I have never had Audley down as a ****. I just think that he has illusions of his greatness. He thinks he is supposed to be world class. He thinks he is supposed to be in the same mould as a Lennox Lewis. Its all his ego though. The reality does not translate this way though. Its fair to say that Audley on his best form has maybe World Class strengths. But he is obviously lacking something and he has failed to deliever. The first performance against Danny Williams exposed him as hot air. Forget his ability. It was his mentality in that fight that made him look like a big mouthed *****. He was scared of getting hit and fought negatively. He was crap. The second fight he was at his best. But he still lacks something.
Yeah, and his manner when addressing the public and spouting **** meant that he was never going to be endeered - part of the reason he is viewed as a ****. I used be Harrison's fan until I saw through the garbage and realised that he wasn't / couldn't produce it in the ring. A **** / egotistical - equally just as irritating. How can you say he has World class strength - I mean seriously, what are you basing this on??? :huh Williams remember was a late sub for Skelton. He is done in my book and the next time he steps up he will come a cropper again. Then, retirement will beckon. I thought when he won Olympic Gold we had a talent on our hands. It seems as if it was not to be. :-(
It's very tough to see how it'll happen for Audley, because it would need more fire and ability than he's shown so far. He's a southpaw. He has a good straight left, and his right uppercut is a surprising and solid shot. He's a pretty good hitter when he commits. Those abilities can get him wins over a certain level of opponent. But his utter, utter lack of any kind of inside game and his lack of confidence in his work will always cost him. So if I'm his manager/promoter? Go on a bum of the month tour and get knockouts over all of them. Other promoters like that kind of thing, an opponent to promote as a danger puncher, regardless of the class of opponent he's been bowling over...just ask Briggs and Maskaev about that. Get knockout wins and get them fast. So get a string of knockouts, try to get a suitable top ten guy to fight (in Audley's case, someone without much power and a preference for fighting on the outside) and hope then you can luck into a title shot for the big cash. Then bet against Audley, and console him after his knockout loss with the money for a retirement fund.
