I've always favoured Povetkin in this match up. Yes Ortiz will be dangerous on the counter but Povetkin can eat the odd big shot and keep coming and I don't think Ortiz can take Povetkin's shots as well as Povetkin can take Ortiz's. Povetkin was a level above as an amateur, Olympic gold when Ortiz was never successful at international level and I think you'd see that when they fight in the pro's. Povetkin will have no problem getting inside on Ortiz who isn't very agile, Ortiz relies on his opponents fearing his power and counters to give him space to work, Povetkin will suffocate him with aggression and pressure and once inside Ortiz isn't effective, he doesn't work inside or clinch, he usually tries to push opponents off him to create space to fire shots, which will just open himself up to Povetkins overhand right, hooks and uppercuts. Povetkin KO's Ortiz inside 5 rounds.
Tough fight whyte bounced him off the floor like a basketball before getting stopped. Slightly favor ortiz
Cant see anything Ortiz has done to date that would make anyone think hes on Povetkins level. Pov is shot so you never know but I see Pov putting him to sleep
Styles make fights and this style is horrid for povetkin ! Left handed power punching heavyweight who luvs to go to the body also !!!!! Ortiz by 8 rd ko
Needless to say I think Povetkin wins this. He was better in his prime and I think he's aged better too.
Povetkin still seems to have a good chin unlike Ortiz.. His gas tank is better too so unless Ortiz can get him out of there in a couple of rounds then it will be a mid to late tko win for Povetkin..
Povetkin has a better resume, but I think both are on similar level. Both would probably beat the likes of Whyte and Parker. Thier only losses have been to Wilder and Joshua respectively. 50 / 50 fight.
I think that in 2020 it would be played on the first that would hit the other hard and it could well be Ortiz who comes out on top. He seems to have aged better than Povetkin and we can clearly see since two fights that the Russian's chin has become fragile. On the other hand I see Povetkin by KO if the fight had taken place between 2013 and 2018.
Maybe Ortiz has aged better but then he's fighting push overs like Flores, lets see Ortiz vs guys like Whyte and Hunter and see how old he looks and how fragile his chin is. But wouldn't surprise me if Ortiz does have more left as he's not really had many fights at the top level, 2 fights vs Wilder and then maybe Jennings is his next best win, he simply doesn't have as much wear and tear as Povetkin who's fought Wlad, Joshua, Whyte, Hunter, Takam, Chagaev, Byrd etc. But until we see Ortiz in with opponents on the same level as Povetkin has been facing then we don't really know, everyone looks good when they are facing over matched opposition.
Prime Povetkin slaughters Prime Ortiz. But now? I'd say based on resume Povetkin, but have no idea. Could not call it. Someone is getting KO'd though.
