Well it seems that Joe Joyce has bitten off possibly more than he can chew. He issued a challenge to Ortiz and it was immediately accepted. Now was he just all talk or is he for real. I think he gets knocked out. Who wins this match up?
Joyce will win within 4-5 rounds, he will be to relentless for an ageing Ortiz. Joyce is very underrated, his shots are thudding and accurate. He has one of the best engines in the division and won't stop coming. Good fight for Joyce at this time, he needs to move quick as he's 33. Joe should have a gold medal the final vs Yoka was a robbery.
Well, if he is going to get anywhere he needs to fight the top guys, he has plenty of experience and needs to crack on Its a great fight, personally i really rate Joyce, hes top 10 easily...how far he can go, well we need to find out asap. I couldnt call it,,,its 50/50 to me but i would like to see it.......im interested to see how his chin stands up to being hit by a puncher like ortiz, so far he has steamrollered opponents but but very open ....how far he goes will depend largely on his chin...it better be solid because it will be hit a lot by the top guys... I think hes one of those that COULD beat anyone but could also lose just as easy due to being so open
I'd pick Ortiz to win, but wouldn't be surprised to see Joyce win it. His style would be a nightmare for anyone in the division, and how a 38-48 year old man handles the swarming will be interesting to see
Do me a favour. Ortiz by KO and it will be early. I give Joe 4 rounds max until the old man gets up from his rocking chair and puts this kid to sleep.
Very interesting fight and probably pretty entertaining as well. I love Joyce trying to get a top 5ish heavyweight after only 7 pro fights. I do think it’s a fight or two too early for Joyce and he’d benefit from facing someone like Kownacki and/or Martin first. I’d still love to see it though.
I dont know who i would favour in that one. Ortiz is without doubt on the decline but then Joyce hasnt yet fought anybody with that amount of technical skill, well not in the pro ranks although i always hear good things about him in sparring against the top level guys Joyce is decent but i feel like i see a few things that i feel could get exposed, i really dont sit well with his permanent square stance. Ortiz tank has gone, he aint no 12 round fighter any more but for a few early rounds while his tank is full he should be able to ask plenty or serious questions of Joyce or even maybe expose him. Or in those early rounds Joyce can show us that his style and skill can keep going as he rises through the ranks.Seems a bit of a leap but at his age time is against him. Very interesting fight as far as im concerned, if it gets done then brilliant.
Joe is incredibly open and Ortiz can punch. It will be a war whilst it lasts. You would have to strongly favour Ortiz on experience and ring craft, but Joyce has a chance that he can monster an aging warrior. I hope this one happens but doubt that the money available will satisfy the risk/reward needs of both sides.
This. At Joyce's age, which is 33 he doesn't have the time to fight 10-20 soup cans. This is an excellent fight to see where his level really is. Right now he's too far down the totem pole to be taken seriously by any of the champions, but if he beats Ortiz he's automatically in the running for an eventual title shot. Also, it isn't like Ortiz is unbeatable, since Ortiz is a complete sucker for the counter right and if Joyce prepares properly and works on firing the right hand on a reflex I wouldn't be shocked if he scored a knockout on Ortiz. The major problem with Joyce is that he's slow as molasses and his defense if awful. When he throws his hooks he doesn't protect his chin and when he jabs he tends to overextend himself. If his coach can correct these two mistakes he should be able to make it through the early rounds to pose a threat to Ortiz as Ortiz will tire in the later rounds, but if Joyce starts the fight making those mistakes Ortiz will blast Joyce out early with counters.
