Ortiz probably wins. Joyce has no defense.

This is how contenders should behave. No “I’ve got bigger fish to fry”(undeserved title shot) sort of stuff. Hopefully it gets made, it’s an outstanding fight. I think the style matchup is 50-50 with Joyce being very open to counters and with Ortiz needing to establish position to throw them. I’ll slide with Joyce though, I don’t think Ortiz has the mobility or the stamina keep Joyce away from him.

I rate Joyce highly. But at this stage, I am siding with old man Ortiz to get the KO victory inside 6 rounds. Joyce is a very static target and very upright, and Ortiz will find it very easy to land on him and will get the job done.

I think Joyce should avoid this fight. Too much too soon, IMO.

Good fight. Either Ortiz KOs Joyce early or Joyce takes over late when Ortiz gasses and probably stops him.

This fight would be a war. I personally think Joyce would be too fresh for Ortiz who I wasn’t impressed with on Saturday, even though his opponent just tried to survive. Joyce doesn’t use defence much and Ortiz will clip him but I think there will be some trading and Ortiz will empty out and then Joyce KOs him.

On the side of it actually being made, wasn’t Ortiz suppose to be joining Eddie Hearn again?

I personally think if he can get this fight then he should go for broke. May sound stupid but there are very few half decent fighters who are gonna be willing to fight him. It’s the kind of thing he has to do and he has a chance of winning the fight against a top 5 opponent so why not?

As I have just posted in another thread, Joyce stops him.

Joyce wins this and it really opens his career up. I respect that.

Joyce is not that good. Very slow and wide open, a technical magician like Ortiz would expose him badly and stop him rather sooner than later.

Great fight: glad he called for it, glad it was accepted.... a calculated risk. Win it and Joyce goes straight to the top table for match-ups. He's 33 so really there is no reason to hang about with his career.

My gut feeling is the timing is just right for him too...

Exactly he's going to be avoided by everyone, he's far too risky with no reward.

If Ortiz is willing he should snatch the opportunity as who knows when his next chance to fight a "name" will be.

It needs to be all or nothing for Joyce he is on very limited time.

He gives anyone a hard night imo. No one will make easy work of Joyce

This will come down to Joyce’s chin, he’s too slow and too open to win this fight without an iron beard. 60/40 Ortiz

Credit where credit is due. Old Man River Ortiz is the baddest 49 y/o boxer on the planet right now but let's not forget he's only fought one puncher in his entire career and he was knocked out by them. Granted the back of his cranium was subjected to a vicious windmilling in that one, but if JJJ cracks him on his whiskers with one of his thunderous bombs best believe he's hitting that canvas harder than The Gypsy King did in round 12 last Saturday night and no 49 y/o is getting back up from a KD like that if JJJ is the one administering it.

That said, JJJ is way too reckless and his defence is virtually nonexistent and if he wades in as recklessly against a skilful counter puncher with KO power like Old Man River Ortiz like he has been in recent fights he'll come unstuck very quickly, unless of course he can land the bomb first.
