Tough one to pick here but I'll go Ortiz. As has been said, Ortiz will make Joyce pay I feel with Joyce's poor defence.

Joyce better have a good chin. He was getting tagged clean in the fight before Fury Wilder. A bigger puncher may cause him some problems.

If he does have the chin then you may have a very decent prospect for the title.

ortiz is old, but honestly i cant tell by the way he fights. he seems to be in good shape and ready to rock n roll. he lost to a dynamite puncher in wilder n thats it. i gotta pick ortiz. fight might happen cuz ortiz is getting old so some fighters might step up an fight this guy.

i personally would love to see ortiz figth anthony joshua !!!

I saw the interview where Joyce said he wants to fight Ortiz and about 10 seconds later Ortiz was coming from another corner with his team and his familiy and accepted the call. LMAO Not 100% sure but Joyce was definitely quiet after Ortiz said yes...

It's a great fight. I do like both, i rate Joyce highly, for me is a Top 10 HW right now and he looks superb so far BUT i think Ortiz and his counter punching skills might be a bit too much right now. Joyce was rocked by Hanks in the first round as he was defending sloppy and he is too easy to hit. I doubt he will fight like that vs. Ortiz so it might be interesting to see how Joyce can adapt to bigger punching guys and better boxers like Ortiz. I mean in terms of skills and power Ortiz is elite and i think if Joyce beats him i think a world title shot is near. Remember what southpaw Usyk did to Joyce in the amateurs....

Surprised how many people picking Joyce. Ortiz deserves to be a fairly substantial favorite. Certainly in resume there is no competition. But there is certainly reason to believe Joyce has a solid chance.

It would be very ironic if Ortiz lost in a similar manner to how he first stormed onto the scene. A comparative completely unproven professional, but with an amateur background and eye test making him look formidable, beating someone who is a largely consensus top 5 or 6 HW.

I think it could potentially make sense for both sides, done right. Both are a bit frozen out, and neither has time to waste. But both were just featured in PPV fights made to make them stand out. If they fought as the chief undercard to a Wilder Fury PPV rematch, both might be willing to take the risk, and likely short changed purse, in order to be groomed for a potential PPV fight against the winner. It would make sense for the promoters to try to build up a fight like that. Especially if they can get them both for a reasonable price.

I think even though Ortiz is (at least) pushing 40, Joyce should be even more desperate. Neither brings much money, but Ortiz, who still brings more money to the table than Joyce, at least has a ton of insider respect. That has a cash value, as Wilder v Ortiz showed. So, Ortiz has enough respect in the division that he could be a credible title fight without too much effort, if things break lucky for him. Joyce is 33 and has a REALLY long way to go to get that respect, unless he gets a blockbuster win like Ortiz. He could flounder for years before getting matched right to make him a mandatory or get sufficient acclaim, and he might decline or pick up a loss along the way, ruining his chances.

So, if they give Ortiz 600-800K, which would probably be a big enough paycheck to risk losing to an unproven pro, at least with the potential for a PPV fight against the Wilder Fury winner on the horizon, I would probably take it for 100K if I'm Joyce. Just because I don't see another avenue open to him that would give him any kind of credible shot at the highest levels in time.

If Joyce is smart he'll wait a big longer until he faces Ortiz. He's talked about Breazeale and Kownacki but I can't see either of them agreeing to fight Joyce.

Ortiz would counter Joyce's attacks and I think he'd stop Joyce. But Joyce has a chance if he can survive the early rounds and take it beyond the 6th, he could overwhelm an old Ortiz. But right now I see Ortiz KOing Joyce more likely.

Joyce loses the first half of the fight and stops Ortiz very late ,maybe round 10/11. I have Ortiz ranked over Joyce by a few but im going to assume Joyce takes punishment and keeps coming where Ortiz will slow to the much stronger Joyce. If anyone still has doubts about the difficulties fighting Joyce after Sat. what are you guys actually watching / Both fought on the same card, one had to grind out a 10 round win,the other demolished his guy in round one .

There cant be an easier way to show both with similar opponents . It could go either way and certainly not a mismatch ,on what planet for those claiming or claimed that when I made this thread months ago ? lol

Also why am I the only poster minus 2 others who has Joyce in top 10 of recent ranking thread and you guys think its a good fight and some pick joyce ? If its a close fight one has to have both ranked near each other ,you cant claim one guys top level and the other guy isn't ready.. lol

I think going straight after Ortiz is smarter. He’ll be an underdog but it isn’t an impossible feat. If he wins, he can parlay it into a title shot. Beating Kownacki or Breazeale first would be an additional risk and not improve his standing as much.

If he lost to Ortiz, he could still be brought in for big fights as a B or C lister for the Dillian Whytes of the boxing world.

This fight is like old George Foreman vs young George Foreman.

    Kinda ironic really.

I'll back Ortiz on this one, but really because he is proven while Joyce isn't at this level - Joyce looks very capable and it's a keen test for both. Good fight, look forward to it!

I pick Ortiz. I agree he needs to get bigger fights soon if he's going to get anywhere before he's old as dirt, but this seems like too big a jump.

Someone more around Chisora or Hammer first would've made more sense.

Riskier fight for Ortiz if it happened.

Very logical next step, but a big jump up. Joyce is 33 and needs a signature win soon to get into the AJ/Wilder/Fury level fights.
