Most boxing fans want to see a Mayweather/Cotto fight. I'm fully confident that if he heals up anytime soon, Mayweather will take on Cotto. If he were to win that fight, he would rival SRL in terms of resume.

what? if he fights cotto, it will definitely raise the profile of his resue, but to say it would rival srl, please find e duran hearns benitez, hagler equivalents on pbf's resume.

now i have to shower, i feel so dirty after defending srl.

Hagler - SRL went up in weight to fight at aging champion just shy of his 34th birthday who was coming off a one year layoff. Hagler was a good fighter, who despite his flaws, did enough to be considered an ATG MW.

PBF equivlant to Hagler - Oscar De La Hoya. Floyd went up in weight to fight Hoya who was an aging champion who had just turned 34 and was coming off a one year layoff. Despite his flaws, De La Hoya did enough to be considered a future ATG.

Results - If you look at these two fights, De La Hoya actually looked better than Hagler did against Leonard, and Floyd won in more impressive fashion. Leonard ran the whole time against Hagler and won a controverial decision by stealing rounds with bull**** flurries. Floyd won a relatively controversial free decision against Hoya. He boxed beautifully, displayed excellent defense, and landed enough clean punches to offset Hoya's bull**** attempts to steal rounds via flurries.

Hearns - Hearns was a 23 year old 6 '1 undefeated, weight drained WW with devastating power and good boxing ability. Leonard was in his mid 20's, had about a 3 inch height disadvantage, and was fighting at his origional weight

PBF equivlant to Hearns - Diego Corrales. Corrales was a 23 year old 5 '11 undefeated , weight drained SFW with devastating power and good boxing ablility. Floyd was also 23, had about a 3 inch height disadvantage, and was fighting at his origional weight.

Results - Leonard started out against Hearns by running his ass off. Unfortunately, Hearns was picking him off from the outside and winning rounds. Leonard was eventually forced to fight him, and won via stoppage in the 14th round against a gased Hearns. Hearns was actually ahead at the time of the stoppage. Floyd completely dismantled Corrales. Like SRL, he did alot of running in this fight. Unlike SRL, he was still able to dominate and dictate the pace; knocking down Corrales 5 times, without getting hit with a significant punch in return, in rout to a 10th round TKO victory.

Wilfred Benitez- There really is no equivlant to him on Floyd's resume. The closest would probably be Judah. Both Judah and Benitez were highly talented fighters, who didn't take advantage of their full talents.

Duran - Cotto would be Floyd's Duran.

In the end, SRL will always be given the edge over Floyd in terms of resume. However, people like Hearns, Hagler, and Duran just don't grow on trees. Let's also not forget that SRL was way more popular than Floyd at the beginning of his career, and the sport of boxing was also more mainstream. As a result, fighters back then were seen more by the public and held in higher regard. However, Floyd has fought guys of similar style and skillset(not neccesarily skill level), and beat them in more impressive fashion. Skillwise, Floyd may be more talented than SRL. However, SRL was more known and beloved than Floyd, and will always be seen, by most boxing fans, as the better fighter. The same goes for Floyd's opponents. I'm not saying that Corrales at SFW was better than Hearns at WW, however the difference isn't as great as people would make it out to be.

the only coparisons are the situations nothing else. the fighters are nowhere near the same level.

and you need to be taken out back and beaten severely for even mentioning judah and benitez in the same breath.

Cotto, to shut up all the Naysayers. Even if he does knock out Cotto then he will be a coward for not facing Williams.

It will go on and on till he is 35 and loses or gets knocked out and then he wil be glass chin fraud that was nothing but an HBO hype job...

    It's a cruel world...

I want him to fight and beat Cotto to shut ALL the Cotto nuthuggers up.
Not because I am a floyd fan and not because I am a cotto hater.
But because some people are blind and because of nuthugging can't think neutral and objective.

Cotto is the no 1 contender in WW, if Floyd fights him then he has indeed fought everyone. Cotto is also the biggest threat outside of boiled down Middle Weights (Margo/Williams)
