atschatschatschatschatsch ESB must have the highest percentile of people taking acid whilst posting ANYWHERE on the internet. Watch Ike v Vargas. Watch Ike v Oscar. Now watch Cotto v Mosley. Then watch either Cotto v Judah or Cotto v Quintana or preferably both. Now readvise your opinion. Quartey KO 5:-( That is truely sad. Cotto is a very intelligent fighter, with very under rated boxing ability. A guy who is clearly more well rounded as a fighter then Quartey. Watch what happened against Vargas, when Vargas fought intelligently... He was clearly outboxing the sometimes one dimensional fighter. Some of you seem to think you will see Cotto going to war with Quartey like Phillips did.... I can assure you, this would DEFINITELY not happen. Cotto is a MUCH smarter fighter then that. I think it would be a very close fight, but to be honest, i think that Cotto is a more skilled fighter. However, we need to seem him fight some more top level welterweight boxer punchers before further analysis can really be applied. Of course not many people here will choose Cotto, because really he is so far too unproven against this mold of fighter at a top level. This thread is pretty unfair. Lets see how Cotto fairs against Marg and against Clottey and maybe Berto as well. Then this thread can be assesed more accurately. Cotto is only just entering his prime now, these types of threads will always swing to the more tested and more proven fighter. Regardless of this though, i know its very easy to follow a popular trend and come and post "QUartey by blowout, Quartey by brutal KO:bbb etc etc.... But really, its pathetic, and i get the feeling very few people are actually putting any thought into it. Your talking about getting two elite level fighters, and the other one annihilating the other.... Cmon guys, how often does that really happen. Not talking Calzaghe v Lacy either, but two tested and genuinely top level guys.
Cotto will go to sleep. Iron chinned Hoya was almost taken out by Quartey and Cottos chin is much weaker compared to Hoya.
At 147 Cotto's chin has been very strong. At 140, he was not only a younger, less intelligent fighter, but also a guy who was suffering the effects of the severe weight draining and drying out he was putting himself through. Hoya went down early in his pro career also, although on these forums i guess its much easier to choose to ignore this fact.
Cotto wins this fight you can't beat cotto with a jab you need more than that.... Cotto would neutralize the jab and punish him repeatedly ... Verno Phillips had Quartey ready to go and he has zero power
Nice to see someone giving an opinion that has even a small bit of reasoning to go with it. For some reason as soon as someone mentions a fighters "prime" they immediately think of a particular fight where they looked very good. Instead of thinking about the whole of their prime, and how they looked against various fighters and various styles during this time. Its hard to say that Cotto would or wouldn't beat him at this stage of Cottos career. However this much is clear: That Cotto has a much more diverse set of skills, and is clearly the much more adaptable fighter. That Cotto has not had a shakey chin at this weight class, and has shown TIME and TIME again that he will adapt to his opponent. Anyone who is analyzing this particular fight, and is looking only at Ike's power and Cotto's chin at 140 as the deciding factor, really needs to re-assess the way they look at fights. The amount of Group think of these forums in recent times is disgusting. Fair enough if you think Quartey wins very clearly, you're entitled to your opinion. But if your going to choose something so EXTREME at lease provide some sort of analysis to go with it:good
On this forum at least anyway... Great fighter in his prime for sure, and maybe at one stage a little under rated on these boards. But sure enough, if a couple people who post more frequently start singing his praises, the majority will follow suit. It happens around here WAY too much.
Actually... i think something else would come into play in this fight and that is Cottos spirit/will, and intelligance. I think physically he is at a disadvantage... but i think he just DOESNT LOSE to ike... if you know what i mean, i think he wills himself to victory... mixing boxing and slugging... i think he would do a good job circling, backing up, and striking all when he needs to... Cotto wins 7-5... its an even fight before he wins the 11th and 12th to close the show. Great matchup and great fight.
Interesting post. I think both guys have the hearts of champions in this fight. One thing with Cotto, is that we have NEVER seen him behind on the scorecards. IMO it would be very interesting to see how he reacts:think I have no doubt whatsovever he would not die wondering.
Ike would win, whether by stoppage or Decision is the question. I think he's a very bad matchup for Cotto.
What bull**** is this? Just because a few people have been taking notice of him recently he's overrated? Watch more footage of the guy, he was excellent in his prime. As is Cotto, but style-wise, he has nothing for Ike. He wouldn't be pressing him and roughing him up like a 154 pound Vargas did to a past prime Ike. He wouldn't be outjabbing him on the outside, and he'd have a hell of a lot more trouble trying to box off the backfoot with someone who has a laser jab and is always right in front of you than he did with a guy like Mosley.
Ike at 147lbs had really really good power. I was suprized at how good Oscar chin was when he took that flushed right hand. Oscar didn't even see it coming either. Oscar once siad that the hardest puncher he ever faced was Ike. He said that right hand he tooks from Ike was like a brick.
