I know that one of these threads pops up every week, but I just noticed that he beat his last opponent by another first round knockout. How is this helping the man? At least get him a durable punching type so he can get some rounds in. There is no need to jump right into tough journeymen like Zack Page, but is, say, Danny Bachelder not available?

Wilder is not even on Tyson Fury's level, there is a good reason why he will be fighting the unemployed and homeless for another few years.

He should step-up step by step. Since he didnt have many amateur fights I can understand that he wants to take it slow. But each fight should be a step up from the previous one..fighting different style as well. The worst case IMO is Demetrius Andrade who was a stellar amateur but still want to take it slow (he said so himself).

Just a refined version of Tyrone Brunson

feeding him bums to market his name, the second he steps up he'll get outclassed.

I think Wilder will start stepping it up. The man won a bronze at the Olympic games so that makes him better than most HW's right there. He's young and developing.

He should step it up. He needs to start fighting durable, tricky opponents. They don't need to be great, they don't even need to have winning records, or even be as good as Demetrius King. But he needs something.

He's no Tyrone Brunson though, that guy is a joke. Fighting someone that hadn't fought in 10 years.....wtf!

He's very young and needs to learn his craft. His work in the gym is more important than the guys he's fighting right now. Give him time.

The step is serious for any prospect. Take a look at Tor Hamer (who returns tonight by the way) he didn't take on near the low level of competition as Deontay has but when he took on Kelvin Price he lost (I know some who think he got robbed) does that mean that Tor will never be a successful boxer no it doesn't but his career took a set back by the loss. I think the promoters need to be sure their guy is ready when he makes the move.

He should be stepping up next year IMO. He's had enough bum of the month club candidates.

I am going to assume Golden Boy knows what they are doing molding Wilder, but they need to move him up. there have to be some 9-3, 7-2, 12-3 guys out there that Wilder could get some rounds against, that can box somewhat, but Wilder could workout kinks against.

It would be nice if they could get someone durable in there with him, but it's hard to get decent opponents when you're fighting for peanuts. It's not like most of his fights are televised or anything, and most of them have taken place in ballrooms around Alabama and places like that.

I think they did try to step him up a tad his last fight against someone who was undefeated, but obviously it wasn't enough of a step up.

Because of his lack of amateur experience, he SHOULD be moved slowly, but it's getting to be a little too slow.

King would ice Wilder at this point. Wilder has a long, long way to go. If I had a really good prospect, unless I was certain he has a spectacular chin, I wouldn't let him go near King with a 10 foot pole.

    Yep.

He's at that point in age and time where he needs to start raping legitimate domestic or national level opponents. He's not even ready for the lower tier world class fighters out there yet. They need to have him fighting much more credible opponents and getting his rounds in... He keeps busting out these mediocre guys in the first couple minutes of a round and that is not enough ring EXP for an up and coming fighter.

If anything he should at least be taking on a greater VOLUME of fighters even if they aren't all worthy opponents. He needs to be living and breathing the game right now.
