As a boxing fanatic I can say I've seen most of the important fights of the last 15 - 20 years in some capacity. I assume most posters on this site would be the same. This got me thinking: 1) What are the biggest mega-fights that you have never seen either live or later as a youtube clip or whatever? 2) What is your most unconventional or unorthodox boxing opinion? Here's mine: 1) I've never seen Hagler v Leonard because I've heard every detail of that fight so many times I feel like I've seen it. I've never seen Hopkins v Taylor I or II because I've been told they were pretty boring. 2) Whilst I understand that the guy is a legend I don't really appreciate Whitaker's style. To me it looks like a guy playing dodgeball and is just frustrating to watch.
They are. Especially the 2nd fight where nothing eventful really happens. Although watching Taylor get decked in the last 3 rounds of the first fight made it worth the watch for me. :yep
I just started watching boxing about 18 months ago so I haven't seen alot of fights, but here i go. 1. Hopkins/Calzaghe, I heard its boring so never watched it 2. Don't really have any yet
1) I skipped out on Mayweather/Marquez. I thought it was going to be too predictable. I also haven't had the courage to watch RJJ vs Danny Green. 2) I found the EM-Manny Pacquaio trilogy to be as enjoyable as the Morales-Barrera fights. I also fell asleep halfway through Ward- Gatti III.
1.Never saw Lewis Tyson because I knew it Lewis would destroy mike, and if I saw live I would have cried. 2. I think Corey spinks is one of the most gifted fighters I've ever seen.
Never saw Holyfield Tyson 1 or 2 and havent seen Lewis Tyson (or if i did, i wasn't boxing minded and it didn't sink in). Highlights don't count.
I think i have basically seen every major fight since 2000. I believe thats when i stopped running around the house and actually started sitting down with my dad watching the fights.
1) I'v watched and loved boxing since i was probably 5 yrs old or so but i never really got into, watched, or really appreciated the lighter weight guys (below 147 lets say) until Pacquiao-Barrera in 03. 2) Ali is an ATG obviously but i think most overrate him and turn him into some unbeatable boxing god who no other HW could **** with. In H2H i'm sure that lots of other ATG heavies could have beat him and probably a few guys who weren't even ATG's I respect the fact that he was willing to stick to his guns and wouldn't cave in even when faced with possible jail time, BUT aside from that i think he's a clown and most of the "great things" attributed to him is b.s. Pretty much his entire career he was little more than a mouth piece for other people, mainly the Nation of Islam, and just regergitated other peoples ****, not having an original idea in his head. P.S. Zbigniew Pietrzykowski beat him in the 1960 Olympics LHW Gold medal match imo, the fact that Ali later threw the Gold medal away is fitting since he didn't deserve it in the first place. 2) While Sanders KTFO of Klitschko no doubt, i don't think the first Brewster fight was on the level.
on the number 2 part my most unconventional opinion is that Roberto Duran was overrated. He never beat a really great fighter convincinly. He lost to Leonard in the rematch and rubber match, so that nullifies that win, and Ray was inexperienced in the first fight. Most people have a problem with that opinion.
1) I missed all of the fights for the first half of 2009. I couldnt afford HBO / Showtime and had my internet off because of the slight economic situation I was in. I then started having boxing withdrawls so bad I decided to give up my grocery bill instead.. 2) My most unorthodox oppinion about boxing is the Nickoli Valuev is small for his size..:yep
