Spence wants it. Haymon doesn’t. It would be out of character for PBC to put their fighter in such a risky fight. Crawford isn’t old enough, Spence is the one struggling with the weight and hasn’t fought in a year. That’s why it’s been so difficult to make.
If Crawford couldn't find a way to make the fight after Spence had a serious car accident I would be shocked if they made it now. Those kinda accidents weaken you for years afterward even if you "walk away." Would be shocked if the fight was made now.
Crawford played himself, there’s nowhere for him to go to make that massive purse anymore. Atleast with Spence, he can go to 154 and sell a fight with a teammate in Charlo. Act the bad blood, trainer split etc make a great story and hype behind it. Both get paid and laugh off back to Texas together in the same Maybach lol
It should have happened four years ago, before Errol's accident and when Bud was still in his prime. It's lost a lot of its shine already.
I've already invested too much time in this fight happening. I'll get excited about it when it's a done deal. More excited and hopeful about Bivol v Beterbiev happening.
Because if he was serious about making the fight, he wouldn’t have signed to fight Aveneysan. Crawford is basically a free agent, whose putting the money up exactly for the promotion if he fights Spence? He is relying 100% on Spence’s management / promotional team to put it together but wants an equal split. Thats nonsense. He has no track record of selling big PPV either. He actually got a fair deal if it was true, no guarantee and a split of ppv. At this point he has no backing aside from his own fists, but that doesn’t create an event that anyone can profit from. He knows he has zero personality and cant sell a fight, so it sounded like a bad deal to him hence why he isnt happy to rely on a big PPV number. It’s his own fault, should have chased bigger and better names a long time ago. Even Arum didnt want the guy when people were calling him p4p #1. The guy isnt marketable, he’s as awkward as Kahwi Leonard. Should have took his split and made the fight
Coming up right after Wilder vs AJ announcement. We live in the fan boy era where just "being in talks" is good enough. Even Mayweather and Pac never strung us along like that
