That's right folks.. we have a new pest on the horizon, only this time it's in the heavyweight division. Sultan Ibragimov so far has fought two heavyweights that are on the verge of collecting senior citizen discount cards and Ibragimov Taylor'd his way through both fights!

Sultan Ibragimov is an over-protected scumbag that will bring the heavyweight division down to an even FURTHER LOW! He must be stopped NOW!!

:fire :fire :fire :fire !!!! Down with Iggy !!!!:fire :fire :fire :fire

Yeah, I also hope he gets his chin cracked and dethroned soon. He really disappointed me in his last two matches.

In the Briggs match, he fought safety-first, but he was the challenger in his first title fight and he was up against a guy with 1 punch power, so it was understandable and excusable. Today, he was the champion fighting in Moscow, and he decided to fight safety-first again.

This was a huge event for Russia and he gave the fans a mediocre performance where he just did enough to win, when he could have looked great. In round 9 he finally started attacking Holyfield like he should have all night, and after a minute he went back to fighting a 44 year old as safe as possible. When he did that bolo punch at the of the 12 I wanted Holyfield to knock him the **** out. Ibragimov had the opportunity to give fans in Russia that don't get the chance to see big boxing events live an exciting fight, but instead he screwed them over. He could have knocked Holyfield out easily in that 12th round. He didn't want to fight more offensively to please the crowd, he didn't want to try to go for the KO to look impressive.. he just went to Moscow and fought an old legend simply to cash in. Ibragimov is B level and his reign will be short.

I dislike this sort of threads wishing misfortune to a pro fighter based on the style he used successfully to overcome previous opponents and that most must have known him to use, as much as I disliked threads and posts wishing Holyfield's retirement prior to the bout or that that fight was a "raw deal". I wish Iggy well and Holyfield to be wise and to use good sense as the great fan I have been for him. Period.

sultan? nah, he's not bad..he did what was needed to win..but still the division really needs some help to make it more exciting. The lower weights are saving boxing.

Just because the world heavyweight scene is wallowing in mediocrity, there is no need to blame Sultan Ibragimov. If he engaged Holyfield head on and didn't blow Holyfield away, the haters would no doubt say he struggled to beat a shot old man. If he had easily destroyed Holyfield then the haters would say it meant nothing. He could never win no matter what.
If people are upset because they paid to watch this fight it's your own fault, what did you expect?

Yes there is a need to blame him because he's contributing to this mediocrity.

He does what he needs to do to win, he is a pretty average boxer with several strengths which he knows how to use well.

However, he needs to start pushing for some unification fights, I would hate for him to defend his titles against other average fighters, rather than fighting some other belt holders.

The man only does what it takes to win - you can´t blame him for that.

I paid to watch this fight and was thoroughly entertained. Sultan
showed he was a terrific boxer who fights well both on the inside
and outside. He scores punches, bodyshots, left and right hooks to
the chin, has tremendous hand speed for a big guy and good
endurance. He had Holy hurt from perfectly placed bodyshots at
several different points in the contest and covered up well when he
got tagged by Holy's big, still very hard countershots. It seems that
many fans now just want to look at huge punchers who score or
look to score the big KO. Give me a good, competitive back and
forth boxing match any day. Holy was dangerous to the end and
Sultan followed Mayweathers instructions to the tee and just used
his boxing talent to retain his title.

That's true, and at least - unlike Ruiz, for example - what Sultan does is WITHIN the rules, and therefore shouldn't be criticized on those grounds.

But it doesn't mean the fans have to like it. Personally, I think Sultan's pretty ordinary, but I don't dislike him because of it. He is what he is, and the thread starter is likely to get their wish before to long.
