Okolie destroyed Anthony Bellend’s whole cruiserweight resume in one fight last night. He would also bladder makabu if they were to fight. Cant help but think people are getting ahead of themselves talking about Breidis. Bald glowacki hadnt won a fight since Nov 2018 and had covid. If the bookies somehow make Breidis underdog it will be like having access to the bank of england money printer
I think he'd beat Makabu, I've never been sold on Makabu, I don't get the big deal made about him. Breidis, different ball game, even at 36 years old the man is legit.
Breidis is a whole different story, a P4P legit proven elite fighter. Breidis will find a way to hurt him badly and KO him.
I think Eddie should give Okolie a defence first as it’s still only about 3 fights he has had with Shane, so it’s early days. After that, go for Bredis at the end of the year - it wouldn’t hurt them to let him age slightly more aswell
I think Okolie beats Makubu handily but Bredis will be a very very tough fight. Still, he seeks to have come on leaps and bounds since turning to McGuigan.
If I had to take a punt I'd definitely bet on Okolie against Briedis. I'd love to see him up at heavyweight. Although Glowacki was unsophisticated and uninspiring, Okolie looked good in a lot of ways last night. I'd love to see him settle in at heavyweight as there are a lot of interesting bouts. I don't think he would look out of place in there against Joshua.
He would knock Makabu out As for Breidis, he mentioned his name in the post-fight interview but for me that would not be a wise move to make right now.
Breidis is obviously a different animal to Glowacki but until I see a few rounds of action, I won't be convinced he can deal with Okolie's style. I get that Breidis is a proven world level performer and he has fought up at heavyweight but Okolie's size, range and even a bit of speed/ability concern me for any cruiserweight. He's just a horrible match for anyone, Glowacki didn't lay a glove on him on a weekend. If you can get inside on him then you may well have joy and Breidis is good enough for that to be a strong possibility. But others have found it almost impossible a) get close b) stop him tying them up on the inside. Absolutely no idea how Okolie makes 200.
Mosty agreed. If you look at the feet though its clear being a southpaw made it much harder for Glowacki to get in range. They kept stepping on each other and bald pole wasnt mobile enough to set his feet and get inside. Breidis on the other hand will be able to get into range easier as hes an orthodox. Hes also got longer arms than Glowacki and is much faster even at 36. Breidis has also never once been even remotely hurt in any of his pro fights. He has a jaw made from granite. It remains to be seen how Okolie will react when for the first time his power will have no effect
Always said I think Okolie could be very hard to beat at Cruiserweight just purely down to his size and physical attributes. Imagine Wilder at Cruiser for example, wouldn’t lose with that power. I think Breidis would be favourite but wouldn’t have him down as a certainty.
I didn't think he'd do much but from Saturday it seems like him and Shane are a good fit. He has all the physical attributes and is apparently a good trainer, so if mcGuigan can continue to develop him he could go far. In a Perfect world he unifies with makubu towards end of year whilst Briedis and Goulmirian(?) wba guy unify also. Probably won't happen like that, but as long as he doesn't chase briedis straight away he could catch him on the downturn and add a good scalp prior to HW.
