Okolie's high WBC rating at heavyweight never sat well with me.

Yoka had potential a decade ago. He's 33 now. This is kinda it for him. A beatable #1 contender in the opposite corner. Those opportunities don't happen every day.

 

Never wanted to see someone get knocked out as much as Okolie but Yoka has almost no chance of being the one to do it. Dude lost every round to old Takam, The Octopus should be able to eke out a miserable decision.

I mean, TBF, it's the WBC... They're masters in dodgy rankings - this is the org that put Ngannou in it's top ten with a 0-1 record.

I'm with you though - as much as Yoka is going nowhere, anything that keeps Okolie away from spoiling decent fights is A-ok with me!

He did beat Joyce to do so, who himself was fairly limited. I like Joyce, and IMO he was far better than his pro resume makes it look, but he was also a good matchup for Yoka.

Honestly, I think the competition was simply bad enough for Yoka to snatch a gold medal. And just like Joyce, Yoka is better than his resume makes it look. The man easily beat the likes of Dave Allen and Christian Hammer.

 

Plenty of Olympic gold winners never make top fighters... Some don't even try (or dip a toe but don't really give it a go), some try and fail to become pro champs.

Ironically the ones that don't even try seem to get more credit than those that are least had a go and came up short.

I'd give more credit to guys like Yoka, Audley or Solis than I would to Jalolov or Savon... Many would do the opposite.

 

Robeisy Ramirez won TWO Olympic gold medals and has been a bust in the pros. Sure, he did win the WBO belt but lets be honest, it only happened due to smart management. That and the blatant corruption between Top Rank and the WBO.

 

Yoka is fighting Okolie in Paris, this is a very winnable fight for him.....one way or another

 

A rare occasion where another robbery for Yoka on home soil wouldn't upset me.
