Oh snap, I dig this. Afolabi, that is the prime Afolabi mentioned here, is among the very few cruisers that a) would elect to rumble with Frenkel and b) have the chin to withstand it (for a while, anyway). This would've answered so many questions about the real depth of Frenkel's abilities, which didn't get satisfactorily plumbed in real life.
That's a wicked match up...I wish we'd have seen it. Ola was like the Cruiserweight lie detector test. Whether you were or weren't legit, a fight with Ola revealed the truth. If you were hiding something, it got found out. It's been awhile since I saw a Frenkel fight, but I thought he looked the goods at the time. I'm gonna need some time to think this one through.
Frenkel is faaaaaaaaaaaaaar more (IMO) deserving of the "What if?" rock-star mystique in this sport than, say, Edwin Valero.
I'd be 100% judgment-free if somebody, even a big strong grown man, happened to be a huge Maccarinelli fan and spontaneously burst into heaving, sobbing tears at the sight of that.
I remember reading he had serious depression issues. Coincidentally, bad anxiety and serious depression has also ruined my life so I can vouch for a guy trying to be a professional athlete under such a burden.
Did you go through many tissues? ;-) In all seriousness, that KO would have made a KO fan's toes curl!
