In this clip, they analyze the careers and styles of Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cX6dMenAtY&feature=related[/ame] This aired in 1996, I believe.
They've done quite a few of these segments, on other topics such as the best of the UK crowd and the best fighters on a pound for pound basis. McGuigan was among the round table in one of them.
The old guy was reg gutteridge, a very well respected journalist and commentator who sadly passed away a few years back. For my money the best commentator of a fight out there. He knew Ali very very well and was considered a friend of all fighters, always constructive and never fawned. The middle aged guy is a journo called colin hart who writes (or wrote) for a rag called 'The Sun'. A so-so judge in my opinion but i DO remember him being the only british tabloid guy, i that i can recollect, to pick Honeyghan to beat Curry
I liked Reg Gutteridge. Loved his commentary, "it's about as one-sided as a lynching", "He really wears his opponent down, kind of like a virus." "His head flopped like Worzel Gummidge" "He's probably wishing that stool now is an ejector seat" "He's like a kid stumbling around in a play pen!" etc. etc. And his classic Eubank somersault line, "The Ego has landed !" Those old British guys are mostly talking crap on this programme though.
They were kind of harsh on Marciano, Walcott ,charles and Moore might have been older but they were still great fighters. Walcott even got better with age, one other thing Moore was a huge light heavy and naturally at least the same size as Rocky.
