Today I've been thinking about watching old fights in black & white during the 40's-50's. I'm going to record Gavilan-Davey and Robinson-Lamotta IV but anyone have any suggestions of what else I can watch? I am looking for aggresive, come-forward fighters or just technically sound movers with good handspeed but anything else is good tooThanks
Anything with Ross. Him and McLarnin is on youtube but not all of it. He's quality. Check him out. Of course there's Joe Louis, great fight with Conn. Check out Tommy Loughran vs James J Braddock or Schmeling against Baer. Also Henry Armstrong vs Ernie Roderick and although it's got no sound, Burley vs Smith. Lamotta vs Irish Bob Murphy should be on there. Check out all the Miguel Canto you can find. And as much of Pep-Saddler that's on there, you'll be shocked at some of the stuff you see there, not the best for viewing.
If you're looking for aggressive and entertaining come-forward fighters then watch Gil Turner. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkTsyMDf6Ns[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g13fecCHJW4[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c09gH5eNv2U[/ame]
Because you said come forward guys and technically sound movers i thought you pretty much covered a wide range of guys there.
:thinkHmmm I'll be sure to check them out. Ha I know what you mean with the last sentence because I have Pep-Saddler III & IV. Just rough fights!
I didn't know they were all filmed, i'm still no0t sure which ones are filmed, i've seen all the footage though, just been a while. If you're flexible on your eras then watch Ruben Olivares, mouth watering stuff.
:good great figh, Hank looked terrific in that one even in defeat. Schmeling-Walker is also a must if you like beatdowns. Both Schmeling-Louis fighs are also there. Especially the first one is great. Canzoneri-Berg for the lw and lww worldchampionship is a must, great fight. Well, everyhing Canzoneri is worth watching. Same for Ross, McLarnin and Armstrong.
