Preface: This is my first thread on here so I apologise if I am doing something wrong. secondly this is NOT to spark any kind of debate on Wrestling/Grappling/MMA vs the sport of Boxing, it’s simply some cool footage I found. Hey guys so i just came across this footage of Jack Johnson wrestling a man by the name of Fred Marcussen. I find it to be a cool example of how in the early 1900’s the sports of Wrestling and Boxing had quite a bit of overlap than they do today. Many Boxers wrestled and many Wrestlers boxed. This can be seen in footage from this time with the extended clinching and fighting on the inside being very reminiscent of Greco Roman Wrestling technique. Just cool footage in general! Here it is. Kind of what I miss about old school skills,I love incorporating good striking into wrestling things, punishing opponents in the clinches were good and thus everyone incorporated it back then, but as time went on boxers starts to Lena and clinch for nothing more than protection, giving the clinch a bad mark. Bring back clinch fighting.
I honestly agree. As much as I love a surgical clean boxing, a good skilled fight in a phone booth is just as sweet.
Wtf this is like the third? Mark Ant I’ve spotted here @McGrain what's happening here? are they breeding? - who is breeding with @Mark Anthony / @mark ant ? Is the original Antman gone?
The last great inside fighter was Mr Toney, good as it gets with modern gloves… once the thumb was stuck… sort of took a lot away.
Jack Johnson's haircut was beyond reproach. Does anyone know how often he did it? Cannot believe @apollack didn't touch upon this.
I want answers “Boxed Ears” is this Antman being weird? Or just an another guy named Antman? Is the original Antman still here?
I’ll damn well tell you when I’ve had enough, I’ve had it up to here with you riding me like this woman.
@Mark Anthony I think you two should fight for your place on the Forum, this is a no Ant Men club not a no Ant Man club.
Inside game is such a beautiful part of boxing. Makes it so much more complete as well, or at least lays foundation for takedown defense and all that. The intense hand fighting and combination of strikes and grappling is why I adore sumo. As far as I know most other wrestlers don't permit hand strikes or throat shoves like Sumo does.
