An unstoppable force meets an immovable object. Actually, two unstoppable forces and two immovable objects meet eachother. Who will be moved? Ya'd think one must be stopped. Foreman plods forward, shooting his slow but accurate jab and slow but strong right hands. Sweeping hooks to the body on both sides. Uppercuts likely to be in the mix. Defending with his forearms mostly, crossing them up close. Tua walks in, sometimes leaping with the left hook. When tagged, he steps in closer, to smother the shots of the opponent in close where he feels safe. When he quickly clears his head he fires the left hook, sometimes in succession or rapid combination. For defense, he uses his gloves and rides punches. Normally, in a match like this, I bank on Foreman“s power, chin will to win and his experience. But Tua is just so damn resillient.
Foreman was EXTREMELY SLOW even by heavyweight standards as opposed to David Tua who actually possessed substantial handspeed and an absurd amount of explosive snap behind his punches, especially the speed of his left hand which delivered the hook like a lightning bolt AND Foreman is not the type to get on his BMX and pedal all night like Lennox Lewis did meaning that Foreman would be right in front of Tua for him to bomb on all night. I see Foreman getting brutalized and getting knocked out somewhere around Round 8 or Round 9 after taking the worst beating of his career but this would be a hilarious fight to watch because Tua looks like a miniature Foreman and they both have the same cross arm defense.
This is a match up I've thought about many times. I think it would make for a great fight as mentioned the unstoppable force meets the unmovable object. I think it would be toe to toe the entire bout, I'd expect both guys to jar each other with big punches. I gotta take Tua because of his work rate but at the same time I could see Old Foreman winning a decision as well by pounding away with his good jab and power punches even slowing down the relentless Tua. I doubt either would be able to knock the other out.
If Tua fought Foreman like he did Ike I logically can't see him hearing the final bell. Tua's defense wasn't good enough. Tua only had one gear so that's how I would see it going. Foreman KO
I don't see either guy getting stopped and am surprised by the picks in that direction. I think Foreman would edge an ultra close fight that is less explosive than you might expect. Decision would be close and could go either way, but Foreman edges it in my pick
Tua didnt have the grace to win a fight like that, the Ike Ibeabuchi one showed that as well. you either had speed and power or boxing technical abilites to box outside..at 5'10 and not very hard to find? This will look much like the Cooper fight but it would last a little longer.Maybe 12? Tua had a chin too. but he doesnt out muscle the bigger bully .
I think Tua has the speed, chin, and power to win this one. Old Foreman lacks Ike's handspeed and non-stop engine. He's there to be hit and Tua would be there to do the hitting. I could see Old George getting battered and bloodied en route to a ref stoppage.
old foreman that im counting is the foreman that fought cooney all the way till holy ...i dont count much after that (even if he beat moorer) ....but styles make fights and foreman even old would be a horrid style for david tua ...foreman via dec ...tuas not gonna be doing well going backwards .
I reckon Tua's head would eventually go from eating too many clean battering ram punches . Tua had the wrong style for Foreman
I'm not the world's biggest Foreman fan, and quite a fan of Tua's, but stylistically this is a fight which favours Foreman all night long. Tua would be punching up at Foreman the whole night, and one shot that was incredibly difficult to land on 90s Foreman was the left hook. Morrison, who was considerably taller than Tua, found it constantly being deflected on Foreman's arms, and I think the same would be true of Tua. On the outside Foreman uses his heavy jab and push offs to keep Tua from closing in on him, and his uppercuts to catch Tua coming in. Tua doesn't go down off course, but he becomes increasingly discouraged by his inability to close on Foreman or land his money shot. He might catch him with a few stinging ones to the body, but he isn't consistent enough in this regard and ends up wasting his energy trying to head hunt. Foreman wins a clear decision in a less exciting fight than many predict. This is all assuming Foreman realises he's in with a man even harder punching and more resilient than himself and plays it smart. He tries to slug with Tua and the whole scenario changes.
, it would be like the Foreman v Stewart fight minus the kds. Both guys hurting the other and getting banged up around the face. But I see tua getting the majority decision win.
