Foreman that fought Cooney and Holyfield vs Ray Mercer that fought Morrison.
Is this the train wreck that everyone would love to see or would Mercer try to box and make it a less exciting fight?
    Who wins?

Mercer might have been too lively for Bald Foreman. This is because Foreman was really only a novelty side show in his comeback. He was never taken seriously in elite circles. Everyone wanted to fight him, so Foreman really could (and did) take his pick of who he thought he could beat. Believe me If Foreman thought he could beat Mercer he would have fought him. Everyone was lining up to fight him.

Morrison and Mercer were not really the same level. Lennox Lewis was able to demonstrate this. Mercer even demonstrated this against Morrison. The same Morrison who beat bald Foreman.

Lewis essentially ended Mercers career with uppercuts. No man can walk onto Foreman's power for 12 rounds.
And when you walk into that power you are doubling the impact of the punch.

    Mercer is the idksab answer.

    Foreman by blow out.

Lou savarese did and Moorer did fine for 9 rounds staying in punching range(Although that probably damaged him, he reacted to punches like a damaged fighter vs Holyfield in 97) but that version of Foreman was probably deteriorated from the 90-91 version.
What are the chances Mercer would decide to box like pretty much everyone else including guys like Morrison Bert Cooper did? He does have an amateur pedigree and the speed advantage.
Personally i lean towards Foreman but can see Mercer beating him with the right strategy and corner.

Planet Dino is a weird place.

Mercer was 36 when it was discovered herniated cervical disc surgery, caused by degenerative factors in a long career. This was well over a year after the Lewis fight, and after Mercer already took big shots against Spoon.

I'd never seen Witherspoon-Mercer. Looked like a great fight. Any opinions on the decision?

Foreman's comeback was all smoke and mirrors.......he would never fight Mercer. George was stripped of the Moorer belt because he refused to fight anybody with a pulse. If a in shape Mercer shows up he will decision Foreman without a lot of fuss.

I do not think Mercer was any special but he was leaps and bounds better than Stewart,Saverese and Schulz who old Foreman went live and death with .

Mercer takes the foreman shots and gets plenty of his own in. Mercer s face is battered at the end but he gets a tight unanimous win.

Old Larry Holmes shoe shined Mercer with slaps one sided. The jab controlled him. Foreman had a better harder jab.
Morrison knocked the fart out of him before his glass chin gave out. He couldn't miss Mercer with uppercuts.

Mercer lost to friggin Ferguson once , arguably twice.

Not sure why you mentioned Copper. He tasted Foremans power and got so terrified he ran back into the locker room after only two rounds. And Cooper was a durable and brave warrior.

Mercer had only one strategy - come forward. Foreman will flatten anybody who consistently walks onto him and Mercer would be doing nothing else.

Ask Mike Tyson what he though of comeback Foreman. 'A wolf in sheeps clothing' .
He was underrated and extremely dangerous.
Mercer isn't putting him away and after 8-9 rounds of walking clean into his power shots with little to no movement up top he will drop to his kness and be counted out.
Anybody voting Mercer simply doesn't understand boxing.

I mention cooper because he was a warrior, trained by joe Frazier but he changed his gameplan to moving and boxing for this fight, even BEFORE foreman's right hand put the fear of god into him. Therefore could it be that mercer, like almost everyone else that fought foreman will adapt his strategy instead of just walking into foreman. Because if mercer tried to box it would be a different fight

Mercer never beat anyone of any note aside from Morrison. Ray was a very beatable hwt. Foreman who beat Cooney stops Mercer in 8 one sided rounds. Ref saves him from further punishment.

George beat Ray by a 7th round TKO. But Mercer is not going down.
