Let's say the Big George from the Moorer fight and the Jones from (the only) Ruiz fight. Do you think that Big George knocks him out cold or Jones wins a UD ?
You'd have a better chance of seeing Jimmy Hoffa riding the Loch Ness Monster than you would have of seeing Jones surviving Foreman.
As much as I'd like to see Foreman win, and he certainly can, I don't think Jones is completely out of this. Remember, Michael Moorer had George pretty well outboxed for 10 rounds before Foreman launched the missile that ended it. Although Roy would not be able to take a hit any better than Moorer did, he was surely much quicker and a better boxer. If he could stay in the eye of the hurricane and not get cocky, he might well take a decision.
Magoo. Moorer was 6'2 and 220lbs in that fight -far more of a natural HW than Jones could ever be. That alone is enough to ensure that he's going to be withstand the pressure better than Jones who would not ever come in nearly that size. His boxing technique was far more fundamentally sound than Jones, who relied on athleticism (and it showed later). Additionally, this question is moot because Jones would not sign for such a dangerous fight. I'd join Foreman and worry about Jones' life in this fight.
I think more like we have a better chance of the finding the other Grassy Knoll Shooter than Foreman landing a punch on Jones in 12 rounds. Roy Jones unanimous decision 120-108. Foreman was one of the easiest fighters in history to outbox and land flush on during the 1990s. Average fighters did it.
He was also smaller than Moorer. I am not sure his speed and footwork would be enough to outbox Foreman full distance without getting hit.
I think the Foreman who fought Holyfield in the early 90's would beat Roy Jones, but the mid 90's and late 90's Foreman would likley be out boxed by Roy Jones.
For those saying Jones couldn't survive for 12, watch the Morrison fight. Morrison was a puncher who turned boxer for THIS FIGHT, and had no where near the skill or speed of Jones. He also had a glass jaw, probably not much better than Jones, if it is at all. He was able to outbox Foreman for 12, and anyone saying Jones couldn't outbox him when he is an ATG and MORRISON did, needs to rethink their stand.
Morrison weighed 226, Jones would be what, 190? Here endeth the comparrison between Jones and Morrison. I don't see Foreman being shy vs a 190lb man, 226 yes, 190 no.
:rofl:rofl not Nessie shes abit old for riding these days werent people thinking Jones might have had a step too far fighting Ruiz.
Not me. I was proclaiming that Ruiz is precisely the HW that Jones would have the best chance against. And Ruiz exceeded even my expectations by fighting precisely the way he should have to lose the fight.
Jones Jr wide UD. Foreman was extremely easy to outbox and Roy had the tools to stay away and use his speed and reflexes to win. If Morrison did it, so can Roy.
Average HEAVYWEIGHT fighters did it. Big men can be expected to have natural durability against other big men. Roy Jones cannot be expected to have the same. Foreman will not respect Jones's power. He did respect Morrison's power. Which means that Foreman will come forward and put serious pressure -physical and mental/emotional- on Roy. Roy will either run like hell and avoid every engagement, or he will risk serious injury.
This would have to be a mega fight for Foreman to take it. Foreman hated movers. He hand picked fighters that were not movers, but the ones that had success against him did so by moving, because old george was so slow and stationery. Jones lands often and regular on Foreman. Light heavys dont hit as hard as heavys but they still hit hard. Foreman wasnt in the condition he was when he fought Ali. I think that Jones (assuming he makes it out of the first, which isnt a given) will actually stop Foreman around the 6th or 7th round.
