Let me clearify that I am not favoring Jones to win. I just don't think that its a totally impossible situation for him either. Foreman was outboxed for 10 rounds by Moorer and for 12 rounds by both Axel Schultz and Tommy Morrison. While all three were bigger than Jones, none of them were known for having particularly sturdy chins and nor did any of them have the speed that Jones had. Now, if Foreman connects with a square shot on the chin that he wound up for, then Jones is toast. But, somehow that didn't happen against Morrison or schultz, and only happened late against Moorer, probably as a result of carelessness.
Morrison's boxing skills sucked and he boxed circles around Foreman and won a lopsided UD. Jones was the far superior fighter to Morrison in every part of outboxing an opponent, Morrison outboxed NOBODY except Foreman.
if you want to see what would happen in this fight take one of your plates of china outside and drop it on your driveway. That is what Foreman would do to the Glass Jawed Roy Jones.
whos to say foreman even lands a punch on jones? jones was damm near impossible to hit by middleweights. I doubt a slow as molasses telepgrahing loop shot from a 46 year old man will be hard to avoid
lmao Roy Jones was wayyyyyyyyy to fast for an old George Foreman. Prime for Prime Foreman knocks out Roy in round 2.
My point was more that Foreman would still respect Morrisons ability to punch. I just don't see a 255lb guy respecting the power of a 190lb guy, in fact I could see George moving through Jones Jr's best shots. Ruiz weighed 226 and isn't half the fighter that even old George was and didn't look hurt by Jones. 65lbs+ is too much to give away to Foreman imo.
Yes, it was seen as a very even fight, going in. I agree, but i would like to add that Schulz, unlike the other mentioned, had a very sturdy beard. I'd pick Jones by decision, but Foreman pressure, size and strength might lead him to breaking Jones down. Hard fight to call.
Yeah, rarely have I seen anyone make such a text book example of how not fight a particular fighter as Ruiz did. Old Foreman was even slower than Ruiz, but the big difference is that he would have no respect for Jones' punches whatsoever and just walk right through them. This makes it very, very difficult for Jones to stay away for 12 rounds IMO. If Ruiz hadn't been so gun shy I think he would have won.
