Prime Foreman would often swing wild and wasn’t very accurate. He would also just use his size as his main weapon, combine that with stamina issues and I just think old Foreman was better. Yes he was a lot slower but seemed more aware of his disadvantages when he was older and also became a lot more technical, patient, and was still a devastating puncher. Anyone agree that Old Foreman was just a better fighter?

Prime Foreman had that scary scary aura about him that engendered fear in opponents, this defeated some fighters just a little even before they started trading blows, get psychological dominance over opponent and you are a long way to defeating him.

I like Max Baers quote "I define fear as standing across the ring from Joe Louis and knowing he wants to go home early." i think facing prime Foreman might have had that effect too.

Imagine getting that stare from Foreman in the Lyle fight, would send shivers down my spine.

The prime version decimated Joe Frazier and Ken norton and old one lost to Tommy Morrison and Shannon Briggs. HELL NO

I hate it when people say this.

And I feel they only say it to perpetuate the myth that modern is always better.

I wouldn’t make the blanket statement that either version was flat out better than the other. I think each rendition was better suited for certain TYPES of opponents.

I agree with what you’re saying for the most part. But Foreman fought Briggs in the LAST fight of his career when he was about 17 months shy of his 50th birthday. And most people feel he was robbed anyway.

Of course you haven't. You're a new member. Stick around long enough and you see the same things over and over.

Absolutely laughable and ridiculous. A fat 40 years old guy is not better than a younger prime version

Compared to the guys from the 70s of course they are.

Yet an old slow dinosaur from the 70s managed to knock out the HW champion of the world 20 years later.

People like to believe that modern boxers are too superior to boxers from previous generations but every so often a guy like this comes along to dispel the myth.
