Like Uncle Rog said "Skills win fights." and that's about the only thing I agree with that man. Even today there are training techniques like the early morning runs just to name one that have been around since before Ali and will be used when we cease to exist. I'm not siding with the fighters from yesterday, but if you really know boxing you know back then their were fighters like Willie Pep, Benny Leonard, Emile Griffith, Nino Benvenuti, Roberto Duran, etc. that were highly skilled and easily just as great as today's greats. If you are talking heavyweights, especially the 40-50lbs difference from the 30'-70's HW's compared to today's, just look how much success former lightweight and cruiserweight champs Holyfield, Moorer, Adamek, Spinks, and Haye have had in the HW division and yet you think greats like Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, Marciano(who had wins over 2 opponents that outweighed him by 40lbs and which he stopped), and especially Ali wouldn't be able to do the same? I'm pretty sure they would and I'm not being biased at all.
Now can I please reiterate this is not p4p but PRIME v PRIME. Basically he destroys anyone pre-Ali. His power advantage coupled with his speed is simply too much for these older boxers. As great as so many of them were and as competitive as they would be p4p that is not what we are talking about. So then we look at Ali and post Ali. I'll keep this brief. Nobody beats him. Full stop.
The difference is Tyson has a 40lb weight advantage over Marciano, but that is 100% ripped lean muscle mass. Where as the other guys he was fighting the weight may have been due to size difference or whatever, we dont know. But we do know TYson would be too heavy and strong for the older guys (up to abot 1950s or so). Surely we can all agree on that much at least?
Some people are so dense. He would say that whether it was his view or not out of respect. Means nothing.
agreed. ali could often be seen scoffing huge piles of doughnuts in between rounds of sparring. jose napoles used to inject mars bars straight into his blood stream.
Mike Tysons first loss was when he was 24 years old and had only been a pro for 5 years. He was on the back of a 6 fight KO streak which included 2 hall of famers and 3 Heavyweight Champions. He beat Frank Bruno 12 months before his first loss and beat Carl Williams 7 months before his first loss. His next loss came when he was 29. He lost twice, back to back against Evander Holyfield. So he looked good knocking Tomato cans and old timers over as a young heavyweight. So what. He was limited. He was an excellent undisputed champion for a while, but he is NEVER an ATG. His record just doesn't stack up.
Perfect example thank you. So Ali was eating **** like that to build energy. These days the ways to effectively deliver energy to muscles has improved dramatically. Thus speed and power have increased. Tyson v Marciano (for example). Would be akin to something like a human v a chimpanzee. What I mean by that is the power in the muscles of the chimp is almost insurmountably more that the human has no chance.
Tyson is just one top HW, substitute in Lewis if that makes you feel better. Plus we arent talking about a one punch KO which could happen to anyone from anyone (within reason), we are talking if they fought 10 times (or however many you want) who wins the majority.
