OLD Heavyweight Champions from Antiquity to Current

This list was racist and disregarded black boxing history. Basically, **** it, it's old work.

 

A 7th century BC turk vs a 20th century AD american.

Obviously the whole we don't know much about Onomastos **** and it's best to not compare eras ****, but that's not very fun.

I think everyone on the planet already knows the argument for Mike.

I suppose if I really had to make an argument for how Onomastos may have been able to beat Tyson I'd focus on three points. Mostly because Tyson's a beast and I can't think of much advantage Onomastos could possibly have.

1) Onomastos being a 7th century BC champion would have trained his skull. I know Mike has crazy KO power, but he's surely never hit a man with such a chin.

What I mean is the way boxing started in Greece was through the Spartan army. Spartan soldiers would box to train for war, it was as martial a martial art can get. When boxing was war training exclusively one man would fight the entire fight on offense alone. The other man on defense alone. The man on offense has one goal, to KO the other man. The man on defense is simply meant to not be KO'd but does not move, block, parry, or do anything else we associate with defense. He stands there and takes as many blows as he can until he is KOd or the man on offense has tired himself out. The entire army would both be punched out and KO'd in the affair. If you won a match and KO'd a guy they just stood a new one in front of you. If you stood through a barrage of punches until a man was too tired to punch any more they'd just send a fresh one in.

The purpose of this was two fold and as basic as you might assume. The striking is building up striking strength which did translate in the Spartan army being able to pierce period armor at a higher rate than their contemporaries without a technological advantage. The standing there being battered did actually translate into thicker skulls able to take period weapons, swords and even axes, and continue the battle.

Mike Tyson never hit a man who can headbutt the money side of an axe. Who knows if Onomastos can't just eat Mike's best like an M&M.

2) The fight would have to be outside because Onomastos has to fight outside in full view of Apollo and Zeus. It is his religion. Being that I just placed this fantasy bout outside Onomastos would probably have the edge in sun control. Another training a 7th century BC champion would have taken very seriously would be his position juxtaposed to the sun. Onomastos is going to use the sun his opening. He's going to use the sun for defense, and he's going to use upper body and head movement to disguise exactly how he plans to use the sun exchange by exchange.

3) Endurance. Onomastos, like all Ancients, can fight from sun up until sundown. The hellanodikai wouldn't allow a fight to go on that long, but I think it's safe to say if he could manage to not get hurt by Tyson he would be able to tire Mike until Mike sits his own ass down.

I actually don't know much of diddles about Herakleides except he may be this mummy:

And that he won his crown by his opponent not showing up. He might have been terrifying and the guy was too scared to fight but chances are unlikely given information is so skint and there were only four champions after him in the Roman era. I think what's most likely is Christianity had started to kill boxing in Rome and he was the sort of champion you see when there is little to no public interest.

 

God I wish. How do you have a four time champion with absolutely nothing on him? I don't know. He's never come up in any books and if it wasn't for the foundation for the hellenic world I wouldn't have ever known he existed and skipped those years.

I will definitely let you know when I find something. I might have to look for him explicitly or call FHW for help.
