Ruiz got stopped due to his eye injury, not due to being gassed. It's why he's in hospital at the moment.

He would have kept on fighting if he was winning the fight, or if the scorecards were even (2 judges had Hasegawa up), and he wasn't gassed out. The eye injury didnt look that bad to me, I've seen FAR wore.

Facts are Ruiz is not world level, and he got exposed. I doubt he ever gets another chance at a world title shot again, but who knows.

If he was gassed he wouldn't have gone straight to hospital AVOIDING the media totally. He had been mega respectful throughout the last week and would have said something had the injury not been one that he/his team considered severe. It didn't look bad but from what the Japanese are now reporting it was pretty serious

Are you serious? Go watch the 9th round, Ruiz basically let everything he had out in gas tank with the long ass flurry exchange he had with Hasegawa. If Ruiz knocked Hasegawa down, and didnt lose that flurry do you think the fight would have been stopped? Hasegawa winning that flurry got him the stoppage.

I'm not saying the eye injury wasn't part of why he was stopped, but it was more of a mix of things. Ruiz losing the fight, basically emptying his gas tank in the 9th losing the exchanges, and the damage to his face.

I think he laned his best shot, got caught by a number of left hands in the process (theres a great still on boxmob of the eye swelling badly), and knew that he wasn't going to land a 1-punch KO finish. Rather than take further punishment, whilst behind, they thought he'd be better off saving his career, or years of it. Much like the Kell Brook/Gennady Golovkin situation.

The fact he never stayed around to talk to the media, who he'd been friendly with the entire time he'd been in Japan suggests there was a lot more than just "gassing"

Yes, like I said, "I'm not saying the eye injury wasn't part of why he was stopped, but it was more of a mix of things. Ruiz losing the fight, basically emptying his gas tank in the 9th losing the exchanges, and the damage to his face."

Boxing poster legitimately questioning a professional fighters eye injuries legitimacy. Surreal.

LOL i thought you were leaving, yet you're still on my thread. When did I question his eye injury. His eye was clearly damaged, but in my opinion at least he let everything he had out in his tank in the 9th, and lost that round. He was down on the scorecards, his face was all battered up, and he was gassed.

Btw shouldn't you be looking for posts and threads that use the word expose, glass chin, etc so you can whine at them? Or are you going to continue to take what I said out of context because you have some kind of grudge against me.

I love Hazegawa ever since his legendary title run at banatamweight. I'm glad he won, hope he retires on a high note.

Same, I hope he retires now, or gets a couple easy defenses and retires. Please don't feed this guy to Guzman or Quigg.

Damn, Hozumi landed some savage left hands when he was hurt and against the ropes. I think he hit him with four.

And there were quite a few headbutts.

Yes there were, but the headbutts werent the cause of Ruiz just being completely outclassed in skill.
