No chance in hell Tua comes out of retirement AGAIN.

Hes hung up the gloves brother. I talked to Tua when he was down in Christchurch last (when both Cameron & Tua were at a fundraiser) and he has no intention of fighting again. He has also blown up in weight massively again.

It was in the news that he was eying the Meehan vs. Cameron winner. You're saying that was entirely made up? :blood

That was technically a couple of years after the "circle jerk" of Ruiz/Chagaev/Valuev, which spanned 2006-2008 - but that actually serves the point well. Chagaev was better in 2006-2008 than he was in 2010, after Klitschko had beaten him to a pulp...and that sort of cancels out Meehan's layoff, especially since Chagaev's was half as long and compounded by health issues.

I think a 2006-2008 encounter between them goes exactly the same except with Meehan barely snatching a round, instead of the few he did in 2010.

No, not entirely. But, over here, the news (3 news) is owned by Fairfax media. Fairfax media also own Duco events (the boxing promoters currently leading NZ). Duco events goes out of their way to stir the pot between the countries top boxers, that way they get contracts out of it.

Duco stated in one article -

"Tua has indicated he would be willing to make a comeback to fight last night's winner."

Then when Tua was asked from another source, he stated that he is finished with boxing, he has lost the love of the game.

    What news was it in?

Following the Meehan/Cameron fight, I have not seen one mention from Duco saying that Tua is coming out of retirement. I can see that news agencies outside of NZ could easily formulate the 'dream' match up. However, Tua seemed absolutely certain he was not fighting again. Even the way he said it seemed so genuine, he said fighting is not him anymore.

Stuff.NZ says Meehan sees "No glory" in fighting Tua, and finds the whole thing skeptical. In the same article he says he is more interested in fighting Briggs. I'd be down with that too, though close to zero chance Briggs risks a shot at Wlad (however much of a shot it is) to fight Meehan.

Briggs should think about taking on Meehan, seeing tho Kali is ranked higher than him by just about every organisation and it would be a step up from the cans Briggs has been fighting..

I'm not sure I'd respect a win over Briggs more than a win over Tua in 2014.

Briggs has done absolutely nnothing in several years even half as good as drawing with Monte Barrett. (or demolishing Cameron)

Briggs is more active but that is about it. Who believes Tua honestly couldn't still embark on a can-crushing tour like Briggs' and do just as well if not better against the same guys?

Meehan vs Chagaev now would still be an interesting fight.

even though he is 44, now that he has blown the cobwebs away, and his timing should not be an issue, I think it would be very competitive.

if Shannon briggs can get ranked no.7, and mark demori ranked no.9 by the wba, kali will surely be ranked top 15 after winning the wba pan African belt yeah?

at least there is history between the 2 as a selling point. easier than trying to sell chagaev vs de mori, lol.

ruslan vs kali is practically a 50/50 fight now.

how ironic will it be, 7 years after knocking Williamson's head off and earning a title shot that never happened, if kali were to face and beat chagaev for the title?

If u suggested such a thing back then, u would have been taken away to the looney house, lol.

after seeing what Hopkins is doing, its hard to rule anything out these days.

It's a paper title, Wlad holds the only meaningful WBA strap
