I agree with most of it. Don't know wether it's fair to say that fighters don't train hard today though I don't think long rests between fights do them any favours during their careers. In the long run it probably does though.
The main points for me is though that most fighters today just aren't experienced as the old fighters. Fighters are over protected and then found out. The talent pool is diluted, don't know how anybody can't see that.

One thing that you told me Al that your Dad said rings true here now IMO

'Its better to slip a punch than block it'

You dont see an awful lot of slipping these days.

Just disagree with “I haven’t seen a decent left hook since Smokin’ Joe Frazier retired and then Mickey Ward had enough.” It´s the same thing in my opinion, Old School and modern guys......Trinidad, De la Hoya, Roy Jones……awesome left hookers !!

got to say one thing going back to what I said. Not all fighters are over protected and then found out. You've only got to look at Manny, Martinez, Hopkins and Marquez. Wether they'd all be multi titlist if there was only one undisputed champ is another thing.

I just think that a lot of fighters today though not all win titles before they're the finished article. It's simply easier to win titles. With tougher fights on the way up the cream would be better fighters for it.

Well i agree with the theory of it, you cannot disagree that practice make perfect. But then i watch film from the modern era, and i watch film from the 20's, supposedly the hardest of tough, proving times, and can clearly see that they look like ****. And the best of our era right now look just as good as the best from other eras. And the very best fighters, with the exception of Robinson and Armstrong, came post-1970

I cannot disagree that the removal of 15 round fights and the situation with titles is a sorry **** poor state. But then the 20's and before had the ugly, disgusting, entire race ducking colour line. The 30's to 50's had heavy Mafia influence, god knows how many fights were rigged.

What i disagree with is that the pre-modern era was some golden, righteous perfect time, where men valiantly fought all comers fairly, in honourable battles.

Tougher trial horses maybe, but no superiority over the modern day cream of the crop
