Old School Heavyweight Fantasy Fight: Jerry Quarry vs Sonny Liston

Liston is too much for a game Quarry. Would probably turn very ugly in the mid late rounds for Jerry.

 

I think Liston would wear Jerry down between 6 and 8 rounds. I am a big fan of both fighters, though and think Quarry had a lot of talent.

 

Jerry was a good fighter and he pulled off a lot of wins that ppl didn't think he could Mac foste, Lyle, Shavers the difference with them and Liston is that jab it would bust Jerry up before the final assault around Round 7

 

Liston would stop him in the mid-late rounds, probably on cuts or myabe his eyes would be swollen shut. I don't think Quarry would do very well.

 

Jerry's movement and counter punching, honestly? In retrospect was he like Muhammad Ali now?

 

I think Quarry has the skills, and stamina to give Liston problems in this fight, no way in hell is this a walk in the park for Sonny...

Liston Tko 13, in a fight he is losing until Quarry gets stopped on cuts....

Because of styles, Jerry has a chance in this one. I agree with others on this thread, though, that Liston's jab would be a big problem for Quarry. He'd have to really prepare in training for that jab that was more than a jab.

 

I've always liked Jerry Quarry, but Sonny Liston's elite jab, power, fast starting ability and two fisted attack coupled with Quarry's tendency to cut and get knocked down, would make this a short night's work.
