most boxing bio's aren't very good, they should be more book like and tell the story rather than just the stats. But of course there are some.

Browsing the thread again, it's shocking how many of you guys go for a fighter like Monzon, for whom there is oodles of footage, or even someone like Schmeling of whom there is some.

It'd be a fighter you just can't see for me, every time. A chance to learn as much as possible about someone you'll never see. If you're curious about Monzon, why not just logon to YT and watch him loads?

There was no greater boxing hero than Barney Ross. None.
Father killed in holdup when Ross was a child
As a boy helped support widow mother and siblings,by being a runner for Al Capone.
    Won Golden Gloves Title
Won 3 titles as a pro, against great fighters
    Volunteered for the US Marines.
Was a true hero at Guadalcanal, saving many of his buddies lives.
Was addicted to morphine,to ward off the pain of his war injuries.
Finally, overcame his addiction to morphine ,after a long struggle.
-What a life story to be told in a big way, unlike ****** on my Back...

I am working on a 14 set edition covering the life and career (heretofore largely uncovered) of William "The Prussian" Sherriff.

I have broken down editions so that each reflects a Station of the Cross with a 15th edition covering the Resurrection, which of course is analogous to Sherriff's rarely visited comback (including his complete destruction of Corbett at the Philly Athletic Club in 1895).

Doubleday and Simon and Schuster are in a bidding war for this one with movie rights soon to follow.

Yes Surf ,I have read Doug Century's book.A fine book, but not as comprehensive, as i believe Ross's ring career, and Marine exploits, and
post war years deserved. He was a great fighter, with an iron chin and
unsurpassed courage in and out of the ring.
P.S. As i have posted before, I saw Barney Ross, standing by a bar,all alone,at a charity function. I mentioned to my friend that that gray haired man at the bar alone was Barney Ross, and I didn't have the guts to walk over and introduce myself. I was in awe of the man and his heroism, and
I still berate myself for not having the courage to walk over. He died about one year later...Cheers Surf.

Whoever's decided-on, the flat-out best one to write it is Springs Toledo.
