I think we need to go back WAY FURTHER than the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
It's likely that some boxers were using steroids in the 1950s and even the 40s.

Pre-WW2 is the real pre-steroid era.
Yes, Carnera was not built up with steroids.

    From which countries?

From what I read, Steroids didn't hit the scene in the States until the mid 1950's, and that was amongst weight-lifters, bodybuilders. The Americans got word of them from the Soviets and before that, there were rumors the Germans may have been experimenting with forms of them. But overall study of it was done prior to the 40's.

John Ziegler was the big guy on the scene back then.

As seen with some of the pictures I put up with bodybuilders, it can be hard to tell who was doing what. I think people just jump on the notion that if a man has muscles he is juiced.

When writing your reply, click the little "picture" button above the replay window. It looks like a mountain with the sun over it. Then insert the web address for the picture you want to use.

ruben carter, emile griffith and cleveland williams looked pretty monstrous as well.

Noooo, lol, I wasn't attacking you or anything. The guy picked up cars and and **** and as far as I know did the bodybuilding/strongman thing outside of boxing.

Could pick up the back of a car/truck supposedly. :nut
