Fitzsimmons was tremendous on the road he would put his hands on the back of a trotting buggy and run for miles. His stamina was exceptional.

One technique Fitzimmons would use was pushing off against a wall for hours to improve his in fighting strength.

That diet is complete ****. I eat more for breakfast then he does in an entire day and I top off at around 129lbs. I tried doing a diet like that and lost 7 lbs and was completely drained in a week. I felt like utter and complete ****. I wouldn't recommend anything like that for anyone who's metabolism isn't slower than a snail. You have to look at the context though. These guys trained to be at the lowest weight possible. Even in the 1950s they were doing this stuff. Look at Liston, he said himself he was 218 lbs muscular at 18 years old but in his pro debut he was 200.5 lbs at 23 years old. Safe to say that the old timers of Fitzsimmons era and so on would be MUCH heavier today.
