I'm reading ( and loving ) in the Ring w Jack Dempsey and the first Flynn fight has me thinking about old war horses that managed to have return moments and shock young guns .. according to the Pollack book, Flynn didn't stop Jack with three fast knockdowns as often reported and told by Dempsey but flat out iced him .. in addition, Dempsey was well prepared for the bout and was an up and comer .. that aside it started to make me think about other like kind huge upsets ..

    Choynski over Johnson is one

    Schmeling over Louis is another

Others that come to mind ?

    Good topic.

    Machen - Quarry

    Holmes - Mercer

    Doug Jones - Boone Kirkman

Time will tell, but maybe Povetkin - Whyte.

    Povetkin might deserve a mention!

I think Choynski was only 31 when he beat Johnson, though he was in decline.
ps I'm enjoying the book too!

Foreman - Moorer is pretty obvious.

Hopkins had his share post 160 that's for sure.

Simon Brown was considered about done and a big underdog when he pumped Norris.

Manny Pac is still racking 'em.

Thinking of the time sorta kinda had Ali down as a bit of a war horse going into Foreman.
