It is amazing how much faster guys at this era were than today's fighters. Take this video of Primo Carnera for example...6-9 250lbs and had hands faster than anything Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones could ever dream of. Not to mention his movement around the ring would absolutely dominate guys like those two slow brothers we have fighting at heavyweight now.... Yeah...and did you see how fast that boxer fell when Primo KO'd him? Not only were people faster, but the force of gravity was also stronger!
And all this time I thought my grandpa was exaggerating when he called us all pussies. Fighters today couldn't handle the speed of the ref, let alone the gladiators of yore.
primo carnera was a pretty slow guy...I wouldnt go as far as to say on the whole, older fighters were faster. I know certain fighters had all time great speed, like willie pep and sugar ray robinson, but it's pretty absurd to suppose an entire generation was faster than another. it's impossible to determine.
You should see how fast they walked in the old days.Only natural they should punch fast as well. And with everything in such dull colour, they probably loved boxing because it gave them a chance to see colours like red.
